Leminar Air Conditioning Industries L.L.C., a member of Al Shirawi Group of Companies, was established in the year 2000 to meet the growing requirements of the HVAC industry for quality

ductwork and sheet metal products.

Today, operating out of its new state-of-the-art facility spread over 325,000sq.ft. in Dubai Industrial City and a second facility in Doha, Leminar is the largest duct manufacturer in the region. It produces an array

of products: HVAC Sheet Metal GI ducts with CGF 1 type flange system, Fire-rated ducts, Spiral Round duct, Sound Attenuators, Acoustic Louvers, Volume Control Dampers, VAV Boxes, Fire Dampers and other accessories.

Its latest, Flame Safe is a reliable and cost-effective non-coated, fire-rated duct. Meeting major international fire safety standards, Flame Safe is locally-produced to meet the immediate requirements of clients, consultants and contractors in a cost-efficient manner.

Leminar has tested Flame Safe to BS 476 part 24:1987 (ISO 6944:1985) / EN 1366-1: 2016 standards for Type A / Type B ducts for Stability, Integrity and Insulation resistance criteria. The system is classified under EN 13501-3 standard. (Full details of the ratings and certification can be produced on request).

Flame Safe is manufactured on Leminar’s fully automated duct coil line from the UK. The ducts are constructed from galvanised steel sheets with CGF 1 Integral flanges as transverse joints and adequate intermediate stiffeners to meet two hours fire rating for stability and integrity criteria. It is available in fully welded construction manufactured from mild steel or stainless steel sheets.

The non-coated ductwork system is tested and certified to be used for various applications such as Smoke extract, Car park, Pressurisation ducts, Ventilation and other fire-rated systems.

STABILITY

In accordance with BS 476 Part 24 : 1987 the fire resistance of ventilation ductwork shall be expressed in minutes of duration of heating in accordance with the ISO-834:1985 (Cellulosic - Standard Time/Temperature Curve) until failure occurs to one or more of the following criteria:

Flame Safe non-coated ductwork system also complies with the requirements of Method 3 of BS 5588 Part 9 and BS 9999 (2008) Fire Protection of Ventilation Ductwork. A typical layout of Type A (fire outside) and Type B (fire inside) is shown below.

Note: Due to the likelihood of combustible deposits within the ducts, it is necessary to protect both the duct and the adjacent compartment from ignition due to radiated heat. Testing of both types A & B are, therefore, equally important.

TYPE A (Fire Outside) TYPE B (Fire Inside/Outside)

Up to 2 hours stability and integrity. Typical for escape lobby ventilation and staircase pressurisation systems.

Up to 2 hours stability, integrity and limited insulation. Typical for kitchen extract, smoke extract, car park and other fire rated systems.

Stability failure shall be deemed to have occurred in duct A within the furnace and in ducts A and B outside the furnace when the duct no longer fulfils its intended function. (For smoke outlet ducts stability failure will also be deemed to have occurred when there is any restriction of the crosssectional area of the duct to 75% or less of its original area)

INTEGRITYThe presence and formation of any cracks, holes or other openings outside the furnace through which flames or hot gases can pass.

INSULATIONInsulation failure shall be deemed to have occurred when the temperature rise above initial ambient on the unexposed surface of the duct outside the furnace exceeds either:• 140 °C as an average value above ambient or• 180 °C as a maximum value above ambientFor a Kitchen extract duct (Type A) these temperature limits also apply to the inside surface of the duct within the furnace.
