On behalf of the Energy Saving Trust, thank you for attending the 2014 Fleet Hero Awards. Congratulations to all the organisations and individuals recognised for their efforts and thanks to all those who applied for an award. This year’s winners have set new standards in reducing fleet emissions. While the UK economy continues to improve, the challenge of saving fuel, reducing costs and reducing the environmental impact of transport remains. The Fleet Hero Awards showcase how good advice, innovative supply chain partners and new technology combined with courageous fleet management can deliver this triple win. Particularly impressive is how this year’s applicants used innovative technologies and measures across all ten categories and I hope their stories will inspire you to take similar actions. For organisations considering sustainable fleet management, the Energy Saving Trust is a trusted source of independent and impartial advice. We have helped hundreds of organisations understand what practical measures they can take, and our involvement in the rapidly-growing Plug in Vehicle market gives us unique insight into how new technologies can work for you.

I’d like to thank our sponsors for helping to make this event happen and giving us the opportunity to once again enjoy the magnificent setting of the Institute of Directors. I hope you had a great evening.

Best wishes,

Andrew Benfield Group Director Transport, Energy Saving Trust

• Built a business case based on a 100 per cent all-electric fleet.

• Service allows many customers to experience the benefits of plug-in vehicles for the first time.

• Demonstrates to other private hire operators in London and elsewhere that an all-electric fleet is a viable proposition.

• Provision of a fast chargepoint facilitates uptake of electric vehicles by nearby businesses.

• Success shared widely in print, online, at events and conferences.

Runner-up: Fruit 4 LondonThis small London-based delivery company shows how to maximise the benefits of electric vehicles and make them integral to the success of the business.

What has Fruit 4 London achieved?

• Annual fuel cost reduced from £2,600 to as low as £215 per vehicle by switching from diesel to electric models.

• Estimated carbon savings of over four tonnes per vehicle each year.
