FLINDERS FOUNDATION HEALTH SEED GRANTS 2018/19 Flinders Foundation and Flinders University are committed to supporting health research. The Health Seed Grants will fund projects that will make a significant contribution to knowledge and/or impact in the area of health research. 1. Funding Funding of up to $25,000 (GST exclusive) per successful grant will be provided. No University research infrastructure levy will be applied. Applications requesting over $25,000 will be deemed ineligible. 2. Budget Budget items which directly support the project include: 2.1 Direct research support including maintenance and consumables. 2.2 Research related services (including core facility charges, statistics and transcription costs). 2.3 Equipment less than $5,000. 2.4 Salaries of personnel directly related to the research (excluding Chief Investigators). Items not allowed: Travel and Accommodation including Conference Travel costs. Publication costs. Student stipends. Salaries for Chief Investigators or to support related activities such as literature reviews, ethics applications etc. 3. Project Duration Projects are expected to be completed by 31 December 2019 with reports due 30 April 2020. 4. Eligibility To be eligible the application must comply with the following: 4.1 A project can only be funded once by the Health Seed Grants. 4.2 The Chief Investigator (CI) must: be an employee of Flinders University or Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN), who has a permanent or contract position at a fraction of no less than 0.1 FTE; or hold academic status at Flinders University; and only be named as Chief Investigator on one application in a funding round. 4.3 A maximum of four additional Associate Investigators (AIs) may be included in an application. AIs do not need to be affiliated with Flinders. 4.4 If the CI is a previous Health Seed Grant recipient, completion of any related reporting requirement is a pre-requisite to applying for funding in this round. 4.5 Applicants must use the application form provided. 4.6 Only applications complying with the above eligibility and received fully signed at [email protected] by the due date will be eligible. 5. Application Selection A Selection Panel of senior researchers will be assembled by the Flinders Foundation Research Committee in consultation with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) (DVCR) of Flinders University. The Selection Panel will make recommendations for funding based on an assessment of each application using the following criteria:

Flinders Foundation and Flinders University are committed to supporting health research.

The Health Seed Grants will fund projects that will make a significant contribution to knowledge and/or impact in the area of health research.

5. Application Selection

A Selection Panel of senior researchers will be assembled by the Flinders Foundation Research Committee in consultation with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) (DVCR) of Flinders University.

The Selection Panel will make recommendations for funding based on an assessment of each application using the following criteria:

1.1. 60% Scientific Quality including originality, feasibility and significance in terms of potential contribution to knowledge and/or impact in the area of health; and

1.2. 40% Chief Investigator capability.

The Foundation Board and the DVCR will consider the recommendations from the Selection Panel and decide which applications to fund.

6. Conditions of Award

6.1 Publication of Funding Round Outcomes

The Foundation and University may publish details of awards including but not limited to the names and photos of Chief Investigators, the title of the project and a summary of the project.

The Chief Investigators agree to assist the Foundation and University in any promotional or reporting activities developed to promote the award and its outcomes.

6.2 Management of funds

The University will manage the funds of all awards except those awarded to SALHN employees who do not hold Flinders University Academic Status. Each award will have a separate account created. The Foundation and Flinders University will provide the agreed funds for successful projects. The University will, at the end of the funding period, acquit the funds and provide that acquittal.

6.3 Reporting Requirements A Final Report must be submitted to the University’s Research Development and Support (RDS) within four months of the completion date of the project and no later than 30 April 2020. RDS will provide the Foundation Board with a copy of the Final Report for each project.
