Our Company

Our showroom is unlike any other in the city. It’s designed like an actual home with each room displaying flooring, mouldings, and panelling, creating a one of a kind shopping experience, where our clients can truly appreciate the Logs End difference.

We also pay tribute to the early loggers with photos, artifacts, hammer stamps, stamped log ends and historical records in our showroom. We hope to one day establish a logging heritage museum where we can share our past and present with visitors from around the world.

Logs End Inc. is a wood flooring company with a difference. Instead of only cutting down new-growth trees, we focus on retrieving “lost” timber from the heyday of 19th century logging operations. Many of our logs are recovered through diving operations on the Ottawa River, its tributaries and small lakes.

Based out of Ottawa, Logs End is Canadian owned and operated, and is the country’s leading supplier of historic old growth flooring, which we proudly distribute around the world. At Logs End, we promise that our products will bring exceptional beauty and elegance to any wood flooring project.

Our COmmitment

Logs End is committed to providing a sustainable supply of wood flooring products. Our professional team of environmentally friendly scuba divers carefully secure each log to the boat by hand. This personal attention to detail helps Logs End avoid the more environmentally damaging type of dragging on the river bottom. We also avoid all sensitive areas in the waterways, as recommended by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Québec’s Ministere de l’Environnment and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

As a member of the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC) we harvest our new-growth hardwood from certified Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) managed forests, in order to guarantee the continuation of our forests for future generations.

Recovered logs

History & RecoveryEvery step on a Logs End floor is a step in a journey that began centuries ago. We craft this lumber, felled generations ago and perfectly preserved underwater, into custom floors and millwork of unparalleled quality and beauty that offer a unique connection to our shared heritage.

It’s estimated that over 14 billion logs floated down the Ottawa River over the course of the log drive era. Between 2-5% of the logs were lost each year to the bottom of the river and its tributaries.

In 1997, Logs End entered the picture. With the use of historical logging maps and precise underwater sonar equipment, we began locating large collections of lost timbers. Once they are located, our scuba team ropes each log individually, raises it carefully, and extracts it from the river – continuing a journey that may have begun over 200 years ago.

Reclaimed Pine with English Chestnut Stain

reClaimed Pine

Reclaimed Pine flooring is our well-established pine-flooring grade. It provides a more classic knotty pine feel suitable for homes and cottages of all varieties.

All of our Reclaimed Pine comes tongue-and-grooved and end-matched to help provide unparalleled stability. As an added feature, an anti-cup relief pattern is added on the underside of each plank to strengthen the final product.

Reclaimed Pine is perfect for those who want to have the history and beauty of river-recovered pine in their home while maintaining an elegant, clean, yet naturally character filled look.

Pre-Finished reClaimed Pine

Logs End is pleased to offer its traditional Reclaimed Pine both unfinished and as a pre-finished, ready-to-install product.

The prefinished pine is available in two options. The first is a traditional prefinished floor finished with eight coats of aluminum oxide finish. This finish is available in custom colours and glosses. Logs End offers a number of stock colours in both the River and Valley Collection. The second option offered is of a “pre-oiled” finish. Natural oils have long stood as the finish of choice in Europe but has recently become a growing trend in north America. Given the oils ability to touch up imperfections without a full sanding, the “pre-oiled” finishes have become incredibly popular in high traffic and commercial settings.

For your convenience, our pre-finished wood also comes with a slight micro-beveled edge to assist with the installation and an anti-cup relief pattern on the underside of each plank to strengthen the final product.

Our Select Yellow Birch flooring produces a look of quiet elegance, as the unique swirling grain patterns capture light differently throughout the day. The colour variations between the sapwood and the heartwood are beautiful, and lead the eye across the floor’s entire surface.

Hickory is a beautiful hardwood that is incredibly durable and resistant to every day wear and tear. Hickory is approximately 45% more durable than Red Oak, and is correspondingly much more resistant to dents and scratches. In fact, hickory is the hardest wood indigenous to north America.

All of our Hickory flooring is available either unfinished, or pre-finished, with custom colours.

Logs End’s Hickory is sourced from registered managed forests in Ontario.

WalnutWalnut is a very attractive and tight-grained wood that ages beautifully. Its color patterns feature a range, from the yellowish white of the sapwood to the dark chocolate brown of the heartwood.

Engineered & Solid Wood

Our engineered flooring is constructed from a core of premium Baltic plywood with a top layer of pine or hardwood. So, while it offers the same enduring beauty as our solid wide plank flooring, it also provides unparalleled stability and versatility.

It can be successfully installed in problematic areas, including below grade, in basements and in condominiums, and can be glued or installed directly over concrete or radiant heat floors. Engineered flooring also stands up better in higher humidity areas than solid wide plank.

Barnboard & Greyboard Barnboard provides a unique piece of farmland heritage, upcycled and 100% sustainable. Authentically vintage, recovered directly from old barns, our barnboard is natural with no stains or treatments.

Alternatively, our Greyboard; river recovered Logs End pine naturally weathered and greyed by sunlight, provides a cleaner, character accent piece.

Whether used in a cottage, or modern home, Barnboard and Greyboard give a splash of rustic character to any setting. From wall panelling, backsplashes, to garden arbors and accent walls, recovered barnboard and greyboard are diverse mediums that can be used in a variety of applications.

Here at Logs End our wood is very versatile. not only do we make great floors but we also supply reclaimed wood materials to many other commercial projects. We’ve had the opportunity to supply material to the Ottawa Convention Center creating a 7 story wall of reclaimed pine.

Logs End has also provided wall panelling and flooring for many corporate offices, restaurants, and hotels throughout Canada.
