We used to have basketball games between Vero & Cuba, and Cocoa., etc. They also had a carnival in the center of town. The Hening and Meyer building was built on the corner of 14th Ave and 20th Street in 1920, after fire had destroyed that block. The Toole building joined on the West and then the Maher building and Routh’s Furniture Store. The buildings all had rooms or apartments to rent upstairs. Mrs. Toole named her hotel the Illinois Hotel.”
