Look at differnet materials. Get children to identify their properties. Which are rigid, flexible, soft, bendy etc. Which are natural or man made? Can they group materials that all share properties?
Children should then identify the properties of different materials and identify where in a castle they materials would be used.
Relate a material’s physical properties to its uses (e.g. describe or demonstrate how a material can be unsuitable for a given task due to its ability to be changed by squashing and bending).Sc EM 1 Identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses.Sc WS 2, 3, 5, 6Sc WS 4 Identify and classify.Sc EM 1; En R C 1d; Co 4, 6
