M essier-Bugatti-Dowty's (Safran) capabilities encompass the entire life cycle of landing and

They are partner to 30 leading commercial, military, business and regional airframers while supporting more than 25,000 aircraft making over 40,000 landings every day.This roughly translates to an impressive 900 worldwide airline customers with an average of one landing every 2.1 seconds!

In this edition of the ADvantage, we interview with Sales & Contract Manager

ADvantage: How does Messier-Bugatti-Dowty deal with environmental developments which relate to emissions, pollution, and other green issues?

Stephane: “One of the strongest examples for Messier-Bugatti-Dowty’s

‘green’ focus would be our EGTS TM electric green taxiing system, in addition to our other electric landing systems. EGTS TM allows aircraft to pushback and taxi without main engines running. It is a true innovation that will reduce fuel consumption and provide significant environmental benefits.”

Stephane: "Aside from our products, we are also innovating our customer focus and support. We have developed a unified front-office Customer Support organization, and Global Support Managers (GSM) network. It provides a 24/7 logistical and technical support center including an extensive AOG services. Also new is our full e-services which include everything from technical information, warranty administration training and price catalogues to our portal for information including delivery, tracking, etc. We also provide a global repair network as well."

ADvantage: Messier-Bugatti-Dowty has taken advantage of one of Avio-Diepen’s Supply Chain Solutions to help support operators and MROs. Can you tell us more about your partnership and the service rendered by Avio-Diepen?

Stephane: "Messier-Bugatti-Dowty strives to provide our worldwide customers with quick and reliable service and support. For this, we were sure that Avio-Diepen would be very helpful. The level of product knowledge that Avio-Diepen personnel have is quite impressive, and we are very impressed about how Avio’s people were extremely knowledgeable about our products. Equally important, they really understand the needs of our customers and are very good at working very closely with customers which makes it easier for us to support them.

Stephane Selves. Possessing a strong background and education in engineering, sales and other industrial and business management capacities, Stephane has worked for Messier-Bugatti-Dowty for over 12 years and currently manages a number of capacities falling under landing gear commercial support.

ADvantage: Before we discuss new innovations, please tell our readers about the vision and focus of Messier-Bugatti-Dowty?

Stephane: "Basically, I can answer this with 3 key points: To develop technological innovations, to enhance our customer focus, and to consolidate our position as world leader in aircraft landing systems and on-ground movement."

ADvantage: Do you have examples of recent technological innovations within Messier-Bugatti-Dowty?

Stephane: "Yes, and I can address all 3 previously mentioned key points here. As for innovations specific to our products and designs, our future landing systems will be constructed with low-cost / high strength structural materials. We will continue to

D onaldson Filtration Solutions remains a dominant force in multiple markets and continues to grow

within the aerospace industry. One of the many reasons for this is due to the fact that Donaldson continues to hold the pulse of the industry while responding respectively through technology and innovation.

The company has a strong customer work ethic that heavily influences their drive for excellence and quality. In addition, much time and effort is placed toward problem solving, innovation, and raising the bar in aerospace standards.Though Donaldson’s legacy is personified by a long and established track record, ADvantage has chosen to focus on their new Air Purification Systems (APS) .

For the inside story, we interviewed Antonio Munoz, EMEA Aerospace Sales Manager at Donaldson Filtration Solutions.

ADvantage: Antonio, please give us some background about your new APS filter and its development.

Antonio: "When you have a group of people confined within a given space like a cabin for example, it is very important that the air is filtered for their comfort and safety. Donaldson’s core business is filtration, and with varying scales and techniques, the total scope of our capabilities includes the filtration of particles, bacteria, water etc. This helps us to accommodate market demands ranging from enhancing cabin hygiene to protecting equipment. Donaldson and Boeing together collaborated in an university study to analyze different techniques to protect both passengers and equipment. The results of this comprehensive study came in the form of our new 787 APS filter. This filter was selected by Boeing to be the first 'Air Purification System' for the Dreamliner."

ADvantage: Do you have a case study example for this application?

Antonio: "Concerned with the health and wellbeing of its passengers, US Airways (now American Airlines) challenged us with the task to enhance cabin hygiene for

their A320, and thanks to the initiative of US Airways, Donaldson has redefined the standards of cabin air filtration, as filters now take on the additional task of eliminating cabin odors as well. With the assistance of hygienist engineers

from US Airways, Donaldson installed a prototype carbon HEPA filters on their aircraft. After further refinements and testing, Donaldson completed the new Carbon Hepa filter. Shortly after, US Airways installed the new Carbon HEPA Filter on their complete fleet consisting of 55 A320s, 125 A319s, and 162 A321s aircraft."

ADvantage: What were the repercussions of the testing of the APS filters?

Antonio: "News of the success of the new APS Carbon HEPA filter is spreading quickly. Considering the increased number of cancelled flights due to unpleasant odors, there is a definite market demand for Donaldson’s new air purification system which effectively eliminates such threats to airlines and their passengers. I have personally spoken to some airlines, pilots and passengers who have told me that there is a definite need to better protect cabin crews and passengers against odors and other contaminates."

ADvantage: So what's next for the Carbon HEPA Filter?

Antonio: "Recently, we obtained aviation certification which enables us to further expand the distribution of the Carbon HEPA filter to all carriers. For example, after the successful testing and application of the HEPA filters, we also applied HEPA filters on 737s, 747s, and variety of other aircraft. Many airlines whom have given extra attention to the well being of customers and take steps in protecting them from viruses and odors show interest in this new product.

We work closely with Avio-Diepen and with different airlines to promote our APS and Carbon Hepa filter and it is great to see how many different airlines are interested in our filter for a solution to deal with the increase of cancelled flights due to odors."

ADvantage: Speaking about Avio-Diepen, can you briefly describe your relationship?

Antonio: "We have been partners for many years now and its pretty clear that Avio-Diepen has the same goals as Donaldson, which is to offer the best service to the customers. Avio-Diepen is highly experienced and is a well proven partner that has a very large network and strong business relationships with its customers. Their knowledge of the aerospace market
