Late Guruvarya Shankarrao Kanitkar founded Progressive Education Society in 1934 with a great foresight. He was a great inspiration to members who joined hands with him in implementing the idea of starting a new era of education system in Pune. The Society progressed and flourished under the leadership of Dr. Gajanan R. Ekbote, Chairman, Business Council, Progressive Education Society, Pune 5. He is an eminent surgeon and an able administrator who leads 58 educational institutes including schools, colleges, Professional colleges and Management institutes etc. under the aegis of Progressive Education Society. Modern and Progressive are the two important features of the Progressive Education Society.

In a short span of twenty years, the college has made remarkable progress. Besides UG and PG courses in various disciplines, the college runs UGC sponsored vocational course B.Voc. (Food Processing Technology & Green House Technology). Several certificate and Diploma Courses imparting modern education are conducted in the college. The college is the recipient of the prestigious ‘Best College Award’ of Savitribai Phule Pune University in 2009 and 2013 respectively. The College was reaccredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade in 2011.
The College has received ‘The Star College’ status under the scheme sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, New Delhi and DST-FIST Grant from the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
Mathematics Department came into existence in the year 1993. Mathematics is offered at undergraduate level as well as interdisciplinary courses like Computer Science, Biotechnology and Management. The department is enriched with good infrastructure like Departmental library & separate computer laboratory updated with recent softwares. Department organizes innovative and relevant activities. Notable among them are Mathematical Hockey, Mathematics Quiz, Mathematics Club, Guest Lectures, Projects.
Under DBT Star College scheme the department also organizes a certificate course in C programming for undergraduate students.
The department has till date organized one state level and one district level seminar.
The main objective of this seminar is to adopt new methods of Pedagogy and to develop effective teaching skills to impart and share knowledge in the classroom. Growing demands in education has added to many challenges in the day to day teaching exercise in classrooms. In order to sustain students’

interest in the subject and prepare them to face competition, teachers need to explore new ways and methods in the classrooms. This seminar intends to deliberate on various innovative teaching skills and pedagogical methods that can be adopted and carried out in the classroom so as to motivate and encourage their understanding of Mathematical Skills. The seminar will also seek to understand the application of Mathematics in day to day life through ICT.
Teachers using innovative teaching methods are invited to present their ideas. Such participants are requested to send their details to the co-ordinator before 30th December 2015.
