The Farm Museum has been very lucky to have a longstanding relationship with Boy Scouts working to earn their Eagle Scout certification.
Eagle is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America. Eagle Scouts are required to earn 21 merit badges and take a leadership role in their troop as well design and implement a project to benefit their community. This includes fundraising for the project. Once the project has been completed, the prospective Eagle must go before a Review Board to officially earn their rank. It is no small undertaking -- especially because the work must be completed before the scout turns 18.
Since 2017, the following Scouts have designed and implemented projects to benefit the Farm Museum. We are very grateful for their efforts.
Nate Crutchfield redesigned and replanted the flower beds around the
Living History Center. He also rebuilt the foundation under the Museum’s historic road grader.
Richard Shulby built a large flower bed near the Spring House. He pointed
the stone around the flowerbed and put perennial plantings in to help spruce up this outdoor exhibit area.
Joshua Riggin designed and built the Museum’s Little Free Library. He built
the library in a replica Conestoga Wagon because the wagon is a prominent feature in the Carroll County seal. Josh also was able to get Penguin Random
House to donate a large number of new books for the library.
Jackson Goodrich built and designed a life-size, outdoor checkerboard near
the Museum’s new playground. The game and checker pieces are made of natural materials in keeping with the outdoor setting.
Avery Lowe is in the process of adjusting the border and rebuilding the fence
around the Museum’s heirloom garden. Avery will also be building a new wishing well, planter and bench for the garden.
The Museum is always happy to work with Eagle Scout candidates, Girl Scouts who want to earn their Gold Award and 4-H’ers looking to earn their Diamond Clover.
