Theme
This year’s play is about a little fish in the
Ocean, who is different from all the other
sea creatures.
Follow him on his undersea adventure to
find love and acceptance.
Opening monologue
Queen of the Sea Narrator

Monologue:
Earth special and unique
Only planet with an Ocean
The Ocean stretches across the planet and is inner-
connected. Oceans houses a diverse population of life.
Billions of plants and animals live in the Ocean from the
largest blue whale to the smallest of microscopic
plankton.
Life began in the Ocean, which is where our tale begins
Mish-Mash Fish
Mish –Mash Fish doesn’t look like the rest of the sea creatures.
One fin is pink, the other blue. He looks like he was made from many parts put together that don’t match.
He has a creation myth of how his Mom put him together will all the best parts that she could find.
For each external physical trait the other sea creatures have, Mish-Mash has a corresponding internal trait. Emphasizing such values as strength and compassion are more important than beauty or aggression.

Primary Department role
Jellyfish are proud of the bioluminescence.
In contrast, Mish-Mash has “the light from
the sun” which gives him a positive attitude.
Costumes will be plain black or blue clothes.
Prop will be light up umbrella, with timed
lights. Will enter when stage is dark, and
umbrellas will light up one at a time to beat
of music. Lights fade up, scene starts.
Shark:
2-person costume for Upper Department
Shark is proud of his aggressive / hunter /
bully character.
In contrast, Mish-Mash was made with “a
star from the sky” to give him moral
guidance.
Stage is quiet with kelp swaying for 16
seconds, then shark appears quickly running
through the set.

Clown Fish:
Middle Department
Clownfish are social creatures and are proud of
all the friends that they have.
In contrast, Mish-Mash was made “with a breeze
from the wind” to blow away any self-doubt. He
therefore has the courage and is brave enough to
make new friends.
Entrance is 30 seconds to music of rapid
running in circular motions up and down a ramp.
Narwhal:
Upper Department
Narwhals are mean boastful porpoises.
They speak together in clicks, whistles and
knocks (like gossip).
Mish-Mash in contrast was made from “the
silence of space” so that he may hear /
listen to others.
Starfish
Primary Department
Starfish are proud of their feet, and the
fact that they are not fish. They can
cling to and stand on the rock.
Mish-Mash in contrast was made from
“the heart of a bird” so that his spirit may
sore and rise above.

Upper Department
Seahorse is proud that he can change color.
Mish-Mash in contrast is made
From the darkness and light of
Shadow. He has gained balance
And perspective.
Crabs
Middle Department
Crabs are proud of their claws that can grab lots of stuff,
symbolizing greed.
Mish-Mash, in contrast was made from the “limitness of
the Universe” and therefore has generosity.
Parrot Fish
Upper Department
Parrotfish are vain about their beautiful
Bright coloring.
Mermaids
Octopus
Octopus is a one-person character for a
child in upper department that does
modern dance. Octopus dances for 41
seconds in introduction of her scene.
Octopus has a garden of collected
shells and shiny rocks and
miscellaneous pretty objects. She calls
it her Mish-Mash Garden, since it is
composed of all different items that
she found. Mish-Mash Fish is so happy
to find the Octopus enjoying the
unique and eclectic garden which
represents himself.

In Act 4, after Mish-Mash meets the Octopus and
the narrator speaks, the scenery gets pulled away
from the back middle of the stage, revealing the
mini stage with the band, who performs the
Beatles’ song.

Comedy Relief
At beginning of Act 2, and end of Act 3 a
comedic act is planned.
Brien and Willem will be dressed as crabs.
Each will enter from an opposite side of
the stage. They will come to center stage
and tell each other and the audience
sea-related jokes.

Stage is deep. Have sets of PVC pipe, going deep back.
Can hang kelp, coral reef plants, animals, fish etc.
1 wooden ramp in middle for dance / running for fish
schools.
Clear and blue/green balloons for bubbles.
