Hey I got it, I’ve got a hustle. Good thing I spent that summer trying to hook up with that fine girl Vanesa down in New Orleans, and they say chasing women is a waste of time. I learned a couple of things that summer. First; if you chase a girl, be sure you’ve got enough energy when she stops running. Second; always play blues in b-flat.I’ll just stop in this city on my way home from work every day where nobody knows me and make the extra money I need. It’s not like I’m lying or anything. I am very blue about life right now. If I get my sports car repossessed and have to drive my economy car, I don’t know what I’ll do.

Man, I remember the days when being an optometrist was enough. I came to the office, put in my eight and that was that. I did what ever I wanted to do on the weekend, bought whatever my eyes saw, even if I had to use a credit card, hey if I wanted it I bought it. Now, with the economy being what it is I can hardly keep up. You know what I need, I need a second job, but who’s going to hire a middle, okay slightly pass middle aged man? And if someone would hire me, what would I do, optometry is all I know. I’ve got to think of some way to make money. Daddy always said, “when the going gets tough, hustlers are the last ones standing.”

A great portion of Americans are hurting under the current finan-cial crises. In every state families have broken up over the stress, loss their homes, and are trying to make it through on half their previous incomes. We want you to have faith you will over come, you will make it through these rough days and life will be peaceful again. And then there are those who just feel they must have the biggest and best of everything. This is the story of one such man:

Playing the streets is tiring. I’ll watch the news in my home audio entertainment room. Hope the economy turns around soon or I’ll have to down size into a 7,000 square foot home. Might have to give up the lake front too. I don’t want to hear all that other news. Where’s my stimulus man? .

Tune in next time when Joe figures out how he’s going to keep his boat down at the marina and his

vacation home in Florida.

I’m sure you’re familiar with the story of the Trojan horse which revolves around or is the result of the main story which is Helen of Troy. I always thought how stupid that guy was to loose a country over one woman. After all, he was a prince, he could have any woman, what was so special about this one? Stupid, stupid, stupid, trade a kingdom for a woman? Speak-ing to men here; have you ever met a woman that was so beau-tiful you would go to war over her? In my entire life I have never met or set eyes on such a woman, that is until Satur-day June 20th at or around 6:45 PM. It was at that point the whole story of Helen of Troy made sense, it was at that point I understood why the prince was willing to put his kingdom on the line for a single female. Why the rest of the country risked their lives I still don’t get but for the prince, yes, I get it, I finally do. I know what you might think, that I was drunk or high and therefore was not in my right mind, or that I am

extremely lonely, so at a weakened state, vulnerable to the seductive spirit of a woman? If I was drunk I was drunk off the serenity upon her angelic face; if I was high, it was my soul floating above ground in an attempt to reach her heavenly beauty. If her friendly, peaceful smile was an attempt to seduce, then seduction can not be a bad thing for this smile was rep-resentative of all that God hoped for from his beloved cre-ation. What does a man do to deserve a gift such as this? Truly there is no justice in life if a man, humble as I am, can not be rewarded with such a prize. Maybe no man should be privi-leged to hold the attention of so magnificent creature. He may be driven mad at the very thought of losing her, he might fight the deliverer of death to stay in her presence. Yes now I understand the story of Helen of Troy, and I also understand why he should have left her with her people. Some things are above the capability of man. I shall not again see such a thing until I reach heaven and even then, the streets of gold will seem less spectacular as she walks upon them.

The desert is what you make it!!!

We aren’t going to turn into the new Hollywood any time soon, so youmight as well get your head around that and make the most of it?

Let’s make the music scene visible here in the valley.See article page 6. Gives some clue to how that might happen.

Kira T. is not only an upcoming artist with a much different style then what you see in music today, but she also is a student athlete. She is currently playing basket-ball for a “historical” college in South Carolina where she gets a chance to see things from a different view then most people in Southern California. Southern hospitality is real, the culture is rich, and yes, it moves a lot slower then fast paced California. Experience a variety of things that most only see on television such as traditions of a “historical” college, the unique marching bands, fraternities and sororities (which she has become a Zeta) with it’s tradition of stepping, and the music life. The music in the south is so much different then that of California and that has opened her up to a various ideas like merging both the southern and west coast style of music together. She believes the south seem to have a sense of urgency when it comes to their careers. They show more passion and are more humble then that of some California artist. In South Carolina, the clubs are filled with college students who are the biggest fan base for these artist, this was something she really didn’t expect to see.

So in all, Kira T. has learned a lot and is ready to show people what she’s got. She’s looking to bring a new flavor to the mic and hopes to shock you with her far from mainstream style. Her killer performance at the Eat the Rich Fest was just the start, with many great things to come. Kira T. wants artist to know, although she raps, she has worked on her back up plan. Basketball has paved the way for a free education and very soon she will have her degree in Criminal Justice. Please note, the days where all rap artist must be grown from the hood are long gone. Now it’s about excellence of a musical style.

Why is it that female artist do not get the same respect as their male coun-terparts? Does a female rap artist not bring the same style that the world loves but with a different flavor? The answer is that they do indeed work just as hard as male artist and bring “it” just as hard, but still do not receive their much earned respect. Female artist like Queen Latifah , Salt-N-Pepper, and Da Brat got the respect back in the day, but now you hardly hear a female rap artist on the radio. Maybe there are less females making it big these days and the ones that were holding it down such as Eve, have answered the call of the TV and movie screen. Female artist actually bring stories of their childhood and life that must be shared in a culture such as ours that is inclusive of both male and female perspectives. Female artist have to work twice as hard and sadly, even with the talent preset, are forced to use sex appeal to sell CDs. It doesn’t have to be that way, Missy Elliot is proof that you can earn respect based on your music. I heard a country song that was making an attempt to copy Missy’s style of lyrical interpretation and modification of the English language. I say we start a revolution and bring back all the top female artist of the 90’s and early 2000. Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, Da Brat, and Eve were some of the best lyricist ever. Please come back ladies, we need you! The game needs you! No salt being thrown towards male artist, by all means keep doing what you do, but I do get tired of your songs talking about what we can shake and what you can do to us. My female artist rap and sing about what we can do for ourselves and how we can shake what we want when we want to, not because we need your approval.

Okay here’s the deal. Despite the brag rap on page 3, which by the way is true, this is the most entertaining tabloid in the High Desert, and will put that boast to a survey of any hundred people you want to put together. Despite that, it’s way too much work with absolutely no respect or appreciation from the very artist this paper was created for. With time running out, needing to go to print and this spot not sold I offered it FREE to a Christian rock band I saw at the 2nd annual Eat the Rich Fest on the 20th. Gave them my info, told them to call and email their info for this FREE article on their group. Never got their info. Had someone call them. They called me but still never got the email. Next day had them texted and still didn’t get the info. Whether free (which I don’t want to do) or at cost which is low, artist in the A.V. just don’t seem to want to promote themselves? I don’t get it!

My Michael Jackson memories [R.I.P. 1958-2009] My first record was Rockin’ Robin. B-side(for the young, that’s the flip side of a record) Love is here and now you’re gone.

I remember the Jackson 5 cartoon. I’m old enough and glad I didn’t miss it. I remember the song Dancin’ Machine and how I got the words wrong. .

for; perfection is God’s business” Michael J Fox

Yeah I know I kind of went after the artist on the front page and now I’m going to make up for that by giving them a reason not to try and blow up the Antelope Valley. That reason is quite simple, the A.V. doesn’t really want an artist community. It takes more than relocating music and art stores to Lancaster Blvd. to create an art community. There are two performing arts centers in the A.V. and neither one will make themselves available to local rock and rap artist. Most of the shows seem to be for older people and when I say older I mean older than me and some would consider me old. Artist will still have to go to L.A. to further their career but yes, they would jump at the opportunity to perform for their friends locally. Message to A.V., artist aren’t buying into the whole “A.V. arts community.” How long are we going to play super conservative. Almost every major company in America uses rap culture to sell it’s products. If it’s okay for them when will it be okay for the A.V.? And rock and roll has been around the A.V. for over 25 years and is not going anywhere. And you know, it’s not like fans of this music aren’t tax payers and voters.

In case this is the last paper, I wanted to take this time to ask someone to forgive me. There was a teacher of mine from high school, I looked up the spelling in my year book but only had my freshman year and he wasn’t in it so I’ll spell it like it sounds. Mr. Spidell, my government teacher I think. I ran into Mr. Spidell some years after graduating and told him about the attempts at making it in the entertainment business. He thought it was all very interesting and wanted me to come in and talk to his class. I went in, very unprepared and winged it. Oh I did a terrible job at explaining the challenges of trying to make it big. Also, I was speaking to young kids and young kids think they will take over the world, and they should, for a while, until their first divorce and their body changes and they hit their 30s so are no longer considered a kid, but they don’t listen to any old guy. I was around 27 then. I just wanted to say thank you Mr. Spidell for allowing me to speak that day. Your asking me remains a very important moment in my life. It’s a time where someone respected my efforts even though I had no money to show for them. Sorry I did such a poor job. If nothing else, I was a good example of why you should go to college.

Who has time to work out now days? Going to the gym, forget that. Hon-estly, I’ve never been much of a gym person. I’ve always been self-motivating so I rather workout at home. But something happened when I hit my, not early thirty days. Suddenly I found I wasn’t working out. For the first time in my life I couldn’t motivate myself to workout. This puzzled me for a minute then I realized it was because I wasn’t practicing my martial arts. I realized it had been my love for martial arts all these years that motivated me to work out, not the love or desire to workout for fitness. How did I solve the prob-lem? I started practicing my kung fu again and everything fell into place, you can’t practice any fighting art without being in good physical shape. Why am I telling you this? Because many American’s, maybe you, could stand to lose a pound or two (or three). You need a reason to workout other than the normal society applied pressure. You should consider learning wing chun kung fu, which I just happen to be a teacher of, and this will give you a reason to stay in good condition. You’re probably thinking, well couldn’t I take another martial art and the answer is no, no you can’t. You must study wing chun kung fu. You have always wanted to learn wing chun kung fu. Every since you were a little boy or girl it was wing chun you longed for. Society robed you of your chance to study wing chun kung fu. Is the Jedi mind control working? Had to try. Kung Fu has a mental side you don’t find in other arts. I’ve been able to defend myself for a while now, so for years it’s been about the journey of discovery. Here’s what I’m doing. I’m looking for a few students I can teach my style to which has a lot of pushing in it so it requires and will develop good cardio. I need the workout myself so I benefit by your presence as well. Yeah you’re thinking aren’t you just trying to get paid. You think this whole article is just an ad for students and not really an article on good health. The reality is, I’ve been training for over twenty-five years and my knowledge is worth something, isn’t it? Why can’t you benefit from the knowledge I have to improve your health and I make a little money? You know you are so cynical. You know what you need, one of wing chun kung fu’s relaxing sensitivity drills.Doing that for a couple of hours will bring you back into balance.

The ground covered with thistles represents a man who hears the message, but the cares of this life and his longing for money choke out God’s word, and he does less and less for God. This paper is meant as a show case for all types of arts not just music. Please understand, I didn’t create this paper with plans to run free stories or reports on arts in the community, I created it so artist can promote themselves in a way other papers in the area may not allow and at a cost that works with most “artist’s” budgets. In other words, I created a tool for you to use to further your career. It’s now in your hands to make the next steps.
