Special Friday Morning Session for Religious, Priests & Consecrated Persons

2019 Pro Fidelitate et Virtute Award Ceremony & Saturday Banquet

Rev. Brian Mullady, O.P., ientered the Dominican Order in 1966 and was ordained in Oakland, California in 1972. He received his Doctorate in Sacred Theology (STD) from the Angelicum University in Rome, Italy. An adjunct professor at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell CT, and the IRL’s Vita Consecrata Institute, he also preaches parish missions and retreats. He has series on EWTN television network, is the author of several books and numerous articles, and is the IRL’s Theological Consultant.

Most Rev. Robert Vasa the 6th bishop of the Diocese of Santa Rosa, was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1976 by Bishop Glennon Flavin, IRL President from 1981-1987. He earned a Licentiate of Canon Law in 1981 from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. In 1999, he was appointed ordinary of the Diocese of Baker, Oregon, and in 2011, Coadjutor Bishop of Santa Rosa. Later that year, he succeeded Bishop Daniel Walsh as the Bishop of Santa Rosa. Bishop Vasa has been President of the IRL since 2012.

Sr. John Mary Sullivan, FSE, a Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist, holds a Masters Degree in Theological Studies from the John Paul II Insti-tute at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She earned her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at Central Connecticut State University. Sister John Mary works for the Archdiocese of Vancouver as an as-

sociate director in Ministries and Outreach and is the coordinator for Marriage and Family Ministries.

Dr. Denis McNamara, Ph.D. is the Associate Director and Associate Professor of The Liturgical Institute. He has a Doctorate in Architectural History from the University of Virginia and is the author of Heavenly City: The Architectural Tradition of Catholic Chicago (2005), Catho-lic Church Architecture and the Spirit of the Liturgy (2009), How to Read Churches: A Crash Course in Ecclesiastical Architecture (2011).

Academic specialties include the theology of liturgical art and architecture, classicism, and sacramental aesthetics.

Fr. Boniface Hicks, O.S.B., is a Benedictine monk of Saint Vincent Ar-chabbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania where he is the Director of Spiritual Formation. He and Rev. Thomas Acklin, O.S.B, co-authored the book: Spiritual Direction: A Guide for Sharing the Father’s Love and were instructors at the 2018 Vita Consecrata Institute. Father is the Gen-eral Manager and on-air host of We Are One Body® Catholic radio

(WAOB®). He offers workshops, retreats and online courses through the Saint Vincent Seminary Institute of Ministry Formation (IMF).

Scheduled Speakers:Dr. Theresa Burke, Ph.D, is the founder of Rachel’s Vineyard, a post-abortion healing ministry, and its follow-on program Grief to Grace. She lectures and trains professionals internationally on subjects in-cluding post-abortion and other abuse trauma and healing. Dr. Burke serves as a pastoral associate of Priests for Life and for the Missionar-ies of the Gospel of Life. She holds an undergraduate degree in English

Communications with a concentration in social work and an M.A. in Counseling Psy-chology from Immaculata University. She holds a Doctorate from Southwest Univer-sity, AZ in Counseling Psychology.

Fr. Thomas Acklin, O.S.B. iis a Benedictine monk of Saint Vincent Ar-chabbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where he is Director of Counseling. A Senior Fellow of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, Father is a spiritual director, theologian and the author of The Passion of the Lamb: God’s Love Poured Out in Jesus and The Unchanging Heart of the Priesthood. Father Acklin earned his S.T.D. degree in Systematic Theology and his Ph.D. in the Psychology of Religion from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.

Sr. Marysia Weber, R.S.M. D.O., a Religious Sister of Mercy of Alma, Michigan, is a physician certified by the American Board of Psychia-try and Neurology. She completed her residency and a fellowship in consultation-liaison psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Min-nesota. Her primary work includes assessing and treating seminary candidates, priests and religious. She has also offered numerous for-mation workshops on a variety of formation issues for U.S. Bishops, seminary forma-tors and vocation directors. She is currently Director of the Office of Consecrated Life for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

We are blessed to have as our special guest the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbish-op Christophe Pierre, who will be the celebrant of the Mass before the Banquet. We

are honoring this year the Little Sisters of the Poor who are cel-ebrating 150 years in the United States and will be receiving the Pro Fidelitate et Virtute Award.

Our theme for this year’s National Meeting, “Forming Apostles for Today,” recognizes

the unique challenges facing religious communi-ties, consecrated men and women and the laity as they seek to evangelize the culture and pro-vide solid formation for young men and women desiring to be true disciples of Our Lord. Our speakers will focus on spiritual direction, forming young adults in a social media culture, the basic pillars of formation, healing the wounds of abuse and being formed by the Liturgy.
