Mission StatementThe mission of Fort Hancock

Elementary Library is to provide materials for all children in hopes they will fulfill their individual abilities and to challenge them to excel in a changing world; to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and

information. The school library strives to instill a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information.

Step 2: Select a Slide Layout Select a layout to set up

your first slide. Make sure to scroll down

to see all the selections. Most layouts include text

boxes. Others include set bullets with text, graphs, clip art, and object insert icons. You can even insert blank layouts.

Step 3: Applying a Design Template First double click the icon

button on the upper right side of the screen that says “Common Tasks.”

On the scroll down menu highlight and double click “Apply Design.”

From there you can scroll down to see which background you would like to use on each slide.

Remember to preview each design selection and hit “apply” to the design you like.

Step 3: Changing your Background

To change the background of your slide, you simply go to “Format Menu” and select “Backgrounds.” You should get a box labeled “Background.”

If you are not happy with the colors you can choose more fill colors by clicking on the down arrow under the bar graph picture.

You will get a color box like the one shown on the bottom left.

Step 4: Typing In Your Text…

Your text box will appear on your screen, to which you can type in your text.

There will be a “Title Box,” and a “Subtitle box.” By clicking into it you can type in your text.

You also have the option to change the font and the size by clicking into the “Format menu” and selecting “Font.”

Step 5: Adding Clipart, and pictures to your slide.

You can add clip art to your slide by clicking onto the clipart button on your slide or you can go to the “Insert” menu and select clipart or insert pictures from an existing file.

Step 6: Moving onto the next slide. When you are finished

you can then move to the next slide by clicking the “New Slide” icon on the tool bar.

You can also click on the common tasks menu and click “New Slide.”

You can then modify your slide by repeating the previous steps.

Step 7: Viewing all your slides at once. There are two easy ways to

view your slides at once. One way is to click on the

“Slide Viewer” icon button on the left corner of your screen.

The second way is to click on the “View” menu and click on “Slide Sorter.”

With the slide sorter you can adjust your slides to fit your likings.

Step 8: Adding animation to your slides. You can add animation to

your slides by clicking on the specific slide.

Then highlight the text box you want to animate and then click the “Custom Animation Effects” button.

You can also go to the slide show pull down menu and select animation preview to see your animation before you save it.

Step 9: Saving your slide show.

Before you begin to add more animation, it would be wise to save your presentation.

Click on the disk icon and “save” your file.

Make sure to back up your presentation frequently.

Step 10: Adding sound to your presentation. You can add sound to

your slide by selecting the “star” icon, then the “custom animation” button, then select a preset sound.

Another way is through the “Insert” pull down menu.

From there you can select a variety of sources and even music from a CD.

Step 11: Slide Transitions. Go to the “Slide Show” pull

down menu. Then select slide transition.

Then decide if you want slides to change each time you click the mouse or automatically after a selected time.

It is easier to use your “slide sorter” icon to see all the slides and select them by pressing “Shift” and the right mouse button to select all the slides and change the times.

Step 12: Preview your slide show.

You can preview your slide show by clicking on the “Slide Show” icon at the bottom left of the screen.

When your slide show ends you will get a faint icon as shown above. You can use this icon as a way of escaping out of the slide show, or you can press the “ESC” button anytime to get out of the slide show.

If you are happy with your slide show then “Save” it. If you need to make changes then go back and follow the same steps.

Remember that the “Powerpoint” software has many features and the only way to truly master it is to practice, and explore it more.
