This term our topic is Rainforests. In English the children will be looking at recounts and we will be writing about our Christmas Day. We will then be looking at traditional stories and adapted a story to make our own. In maths we are focusing on multiplication, division, money and measuring. Please look in your child's planner to find their KIRF targets to practise at home and also weekly updates on what we are covering each week in

lessons. In science our topic is Animals and Habitats in the Rainforest. The children will be using the internet to research animals that live in the rainforest, what they eat and why they are suited to a particular habitat. Our topic work is a mixture of geography and art focusing on rainforests and next half term we will be looking at a contrasting environment, the arctic. We will be watching videos on how to save environments, researching people who live there and finding the

continents and oceans of the world. We are having a DT day designing clothing for either the rainforest or the arctic. This will be at Terrington next half term. In RE we will be looking at Inspirational People and in PE the children will be doing invasion games with KS2 on a Wednesday. Our music lessons will consist of making rainmakers. Please can you listen to your child read regularly at home. Please also remember that homework is due in on a Wednesday.

Last half term the children enjoyed wrapping Christmas presents and writing Christmas cards in the role-play area. They also enjoyed playing with the trucks in the sandpit, creating autumn pictures, building huge train tracks, making a farm, navigating the robot and taking pictures on the camera. All the children love stories and they regularly ask for them throughout the day. This half term we have a dressing-up story corner in our indoor role-play area. We also have a home corner and school role-play area outside. The children still enjoy playing families and like to teach lessons. Please can you inform Miss Stringer or Mrs Bailey of any interests your child has at home so we can provide opportunities for them to develop their interests further at school. Please can you also complete WOW slips when you see your child completing their targets (next steps) at home.

I would like to wish staff, children and parents a Happy New Year!

The children had some lovely activities before Christmas which all governors were invit-ed to join them for. At Christmas dinner it was really nice to be with the children and see them having fun and enjoying themselves.

As you are aware Foston and Terrington Schools voted to fully federate, we are meeting on the 2nd February to reconstitute the new governing body. I am looking forward to working with both schools as a joint governing body.
