Big Ideas Grants are fund requests submitted by Oak Grove teachers to the Oak Grove Foundation for items or supplies that further the educational experience in the classroom. We love being able to fund these fabulous creative teaching experiences for our kids! So Teachers - bring on more! Below are a few of the projects funded through Big Ideas Grants from the Foundation's inception to Fall 2012:

When my first child started Oak Grove, I wanted to get involved with the school in a way that I felt would contribute most to my child’s educational experience. The Oak Grove Foundation provided that opportunity. I was inspired by the Foundation's vision to develop long-term resources for the school by fostering innovative, engaging and fun approaches to learning. I am repeatedly impressed by the incredibly smart, talented and energetic parents that are part of the Oak Grove community. It is my hope that the Foundation will continue to grow, drawing from these resources so that we can build on the stellar academic environment that Oak Grove Elementary already provides.
Today, we're kicking off the Foundation’s 2013 Capital Campaign: “Show Your Love”. The Capital Campaign will be this year's only fundraiser, so it's time to "Show Your Love" for Oak Grove and demonstrate your generosity right now! For every dollar you donate, 100% of the proceeds will go back to the school. Many businesses do matching gifts, so please be sure to check with your HR department to see if your company will match your donation. You can include your donation with the provided form or give directly through our website at: www.oakgrovefoundation.org.
So where does your money go? In 2011-2012, the Foundation hired the technology specialist Katy Miller to help our teachers fully integrate technology into our Oak Grove classrooms (you can get the details by reading her blog by going to the Foundation’s website). Through our Fund-a-Need portion of the 2012 silent auction, we also added 25 iPads, a synching cart and ActivExpressions voters (ask your kids) to her toolbox.
In 2013, our goal is to retain our technology specialist, purchase 25 more iPads and iPad cart, and carry on our Big Ideas grants -- which have funded things like frog dissection, colonial days and innovative reading and writing programs. And of course we will continue to support our principal and teachers in creating an exciting learning environment for all of our children.
2012 PARTY WITH A PURPOSE & SILENT AUCTION SUCCESS!
On a sunny St. Patricks Day in 2012, the Oak Grove Foundation held its third Silent Auction - or “Party with a Purpose”. With over 100 auction items and over 30 pieces of one of a kind class art, over 200 parents gathered at the Emory Alumni House excited to help our school! With new fundraising ideas such as “Fund a Need” and The Angel Tree, the parents of OGE were able to raise enough money to fund 25 iPads and an iPad cart, Katy Miller our Technology Specialist, Active Expressions voters and many, many Big Ideas grants for our teachers and students! Thank you parents!!

I am so thankful for the ongoing support of the Oak Grove Foundation and its role in the educational processes at Oak Grove Elementary School. The Foundation is entering its fifth year as an organization and sponsored many, many learning initiatives for our school.
The Foundation has supported our work in the past by providing funding for classroom level projects (Big Ideas) that encourage critical thinking, hands-on experiences, and rigorous learning. In addition, it has supported and sponsored professional learning for teachers. This year, the Foundation will continue to fund our Instructional Technology Coach, Katy Miller, a part-time staff member to help teachers innovatively integrate technology into the classroom. This has been helpful this past year after the purchase of the 25 iPads and iPad cart purchased by funds raised by your support of the Oak Grove Foundation. Katy helps bring an opportunity to teachers to more fully engage students and provide access to wide varieties of information, research, and experiences.
I come to you asking for your financial support as we seek to live out this continued idea of “Learning without Limits”. It is part of our strategic plan for our school to continue to unleash the unlimited potential of each and every child at Oak Grove. We encourage you to consider a monetary gift at any amount that will bring to fruition our vision that Oak Grove learners will be:
