VI E BEN NOTO (On the Rosary and Public Life)

Encyclical of Pope Leo XIII promulgated on 20 September 1887. To the Bishops of Italy.

“Venerable Brethren,

You know how, We place amid present dangers, Our confidence in the Glorious Virgin of the Holy Rosary, for the safety and prosperity of Christendom and the peace and tranquility of the Church. Mindful that in moments of great trial, pastors and people have ever had recourse with entire confidence to the august Mother of God, in whose hands are all graces, certain too, that devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary is most opportune for the needs of these times, We have

desired to revive everywhere this devotion, and to spread it far and wide among the faithful of the world. Oftentimes already We, in recommending the pious practice of devoting October to honoring Our Lady, have pointed out Our reasons and hope for so doing, and the forms to be

observed; and the entire Church, docile to Our desires, has ever replied by special manifestations of devotion; and now is

making ready to pay to Mary, during a whole month, a daily tribute of the devotion so dear to it………”

“……Let it be your work, venerable brethren, to revive this Christian feeling among your people, an interest in the Catholic cause, a confidence in Our Lady's help, and a spirit of prayer. It is certain that the august Queen, invoked thus well by her man sons, would deign to hear their prayer, console Us in Our sorrow, and crown Our efforts for the Church and for Italy, by granting better times to both. Prayer Virgin, most holy, Mother of the Word Incarnate, Treasurer of graces, and Refuge of sinners, we fly to your motherly affection with lively faith, and we beg of you the grace ever to do the will of God.

Into your most holy hands we commit the keeping of our heart, asking you for health of soul and body, in the certain hope that you, our most loving Mother, will hear our prayer.

Into the bosom of your tender mercy, this day, every day of our life, and at the hour of our death, we commend our soul and body.

To you we entrust all our hopes and consolations, all our trials and miseries, our life and the end of our life, that all our actions may be ordered and disposed according to your will and that of your Divine Son.

Amen

This year we kind of broke the trend with a strong start, welcoming a new member from last month's First Degree. Now we must not forget to take care taking care of those we bring into the Order, which will help with more participation and in the long run, helps grow membership and reduces those delinquent accounts or terminations. The council has a full array of activities that support all KofC programs, please look through the calendar and lend a hand of support when you can; all of us working together ensure Fr. McGivney’s dream and vision lives on. I look forward to seeing and talking with you at the council soon, please don’t hesitate to give me your suggestions; I am at your service. Thanks to all for your continued tremendous support to our church, community, youth, and families – together we are making a difference! My Worthy Brothers All, Where did the summer go – it’s almost over! The summer months have historically been a “slow” period with leadership changes, council installations, planning for the new Columbian Year, etc.
