La Playa Carmel | Saturday, March 16, 2019, 10:30 am - 12 pm

Just south of Beaune, in the iconic center of the Côte d’Or, lays the beautiful village of Meursault. Meursault is one of the finest white wines made in the world and this village celebrates the name of Chardonnay. Meursaults’ vineyards open a golden door, that of "La Côte des Blancs", south between Volnay and Puligny-Montrachet. On this exceptional land, the wines of Meursault glorify the art of Chardonnay. There are several climats in Meursault classified as Premier Cru vineyards. They consist of two groups, one to the north of the village Meursault, bordering on Volnay, and a larger group to the south of the village, in the direction of Puligny-Montrachet and Blagny. In this rare tasting with proprietor Vincent Boyer-Martenot we will explore three of the best Climats from Les Perrières, Genevrières and Charmes. Joining Vincent on the panel is Mark Bright from Saison Hospitality and Sam Rethmeier from République in Los Angeles.

Château Lafite, “An Exceptional Terroir”, with Technical Director Eric Kohler with a special thank you and introduction of Jamie Pollack, Global Managing Director, Zachy’s.

While the first known reference to Lafite dates to 1234 with a certain Gombaud de Lafite, abbot of the Vertheuil Monastery north of Pauillac, Lafite’s mention as a medieval fief dates to the 14th century. The name Lafite comes from the Gascon language term “la hite”, which means “hillock”. There were probably already vineyards on the property at the time when the Ségur family organized the vineyard in the 17th century, and Lafite began to earn its reputation as a great winemaking estate. Jacques de Ségur was credited with the planting of the Lafite vineyard in the 1670s and in the early 1680s. Join Technical Director Eric Kohler, and Sommeliers Larry Stone and Mark Bright, through rare vintages of Château Lafite Rothschild including 2008, 2005, 2003, 2000, 1998, 1995, 1990, and 1985.

Champagne Taittinger, a Sunday morning tasting and chat with Clovis Taittinger with a special treat of Black River Caviar from Graham Gaspard.

What could be better than a Sunday morning in Carmel-by-the-Sea, being entertained by one of the best and brightest young stars in Champagne today? Clovis Taittinger, son of Pierre-Emmanuelle Taittinger, wonderfully represents his family’s incredible Champagne House. Taittinger is synonymous with quality, finesse and elegance. Taittinger Comtes des Champagne is rare. Since its first vintage in 1952, only 31 vintages have seen the light of day. Among these, several have become legendary, and today can only be tasted through words or to listen to those that have tasted them. Joining Clovis on the panel is world class Sommelier Larry Stone. The Sunday tasting will include Taittinger Comtes des Champagne Blanc 2007, 2005, the very rare 2002, Comtes des Champagne Rosé, 2006, and Brut Millésime from magnum 2013, 2005, 2003, and 1999. A special surprise of Black River Caviar from Graham Gaspard will highlight the tasting.
