After years in New York, when husband and wife creative duo Jamie and Jason set their sights on Pittsburgh, their wish list was short: they simply wanted more space. The couple loved their first floor apartment with a backyard in the eclectic Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, but they were ready for something new. For Jamie, it was a job and a return to her hometown, but for a born-and-bred New Yorker like Jason, Pittsburgh

was uncharted territory. They had done their homework, reading the countless articles extolling the changes underfoot in Pittsburgh, and they narrowed their search down to Lawrenceville and the Strip. After looking at one other place in Lawrenceville, Jason convinced his wife that a still-un-der-construction 3BR unit at the Brass Building Lofts in the Strip was the place for them. With more space in the living area alone than their old apartment (and still for less money), it was the perfect fit. The unit came with perks like a private porch boast-ing city views, amazing light from the wall of windows, high/exposed beam ceiling and a

dreamy cross breeze. One look at the space and you can tell the design-centric building came from a talented team; in this case, project architect Indovina Associates also calls the building home. Once settled, Jamie & Jason made quick work making the Penn Avenue space feel like home. She brought her collection of succulents, jungle-y vines and palms from NYC, filling the window ledges with a punch of life. He brought his favorite chair, found in a Brooklyn estate sale from an artist who was once a friend of Andy Warhol’s. The extra space has already come in handy: Though unplanned at the time, Jason was able to keep his NYC job, so one bedroom functions as a remote office while the other serves as a guest bedroom ready and waiting for weekend guests from NYC to fall for PGH. ‘We honestly love it here and so are happy with everything, from the location to the city in general.’

East Liberty is the heart of the East End’s transit service. Many Port Authority bus routesuse the East Busway to bypass local traffic including the P1 and P3 from East Liberty’sbusway station which offer quick rides to Downtown and Oakland. Various otherroutes have stops on Penn Ave. and serve just about anywhere in the East End of the city.

Living Downtown? You CAN get anywhere from here. You can catch a bus or T to almostanywhere in Allegheny County. Groceries in the Strip District, take the 88. For all the flavor ofLawrenceville the 91 works. Nearly all of Port Authority's 100 routes travel in and out of Downtown.
