    Smart Metering

    Market Overview and Challenges

    Market Overview:

400Mu Smart e-meters to be deployed by

    2015 ($2B SAM)

    Deployment mainly driven by regulations

    and mandates

    75% are 1-phase e-meters

Challenges for Smart Meters & MCUs:

    Cost effective:

    - Meter in a chip

    - Reduced Bill of Material

    - Reduced calibration time at end of manufacturing line

Security: With an increased number of connected meters, any entry point to the

Grid need to be highly secured and protected against -

    - Fraud: Need to guarantee billing information integrity

    - Privacy: Power consumption data reflects users activity and can generate added value services

    - Hacking: Smart Grid illegal access could result in a black out

    Accuracy:

    - Meet increased demands for accuracy while deceasing the power consumption of the meter
