43 APRIL 2009 V OLUME THREE, ISSUE NINE Eventquisite By Quon Wilson, Radio One, DC Hello Radio One Family! In this edition of Eventquiste, we are responding to our very first segment of “Promo 911”. In this issue, Bobby Burwell of Praise 104.1fm in Washington DC writes to us: Dear Quon, The Promotion’s Department of Praise 104.1(Washington Market) is currently looking into innovative ideas that can benefit our clients, listeners, community and station alike. We’ve experienced much success with our Spirit of Washington Gospel Cruises, The “SPIRIT of PRAISE” celebration at the DC Armory and in late March we honored Pastors in the Washington Metropolitan Area for the 2009 “PRAYER BREAKFAST”. I’m finding out that our staff and “loyal listeners” enjoy our presence in the community but I’m coming up short with promotional items to brand the station at the events… Any suggestions how to deal with this from your experience? Thank you for your submission to Promo 911 ! Your presented promotional dilemma is something that we are all facing and learning to make the best of. As we rely on our “families” in “times of need” in our personal lives, we must extend this same thought process to our extended families-our listeners/ communities. Community service is not only the best way to effectively give back to your community; it is also a way to donate time without donating dollars that could land you tons of “free” exposure. We are experiencing the exact same challenge at 93.9 WKYS; however we have crafted some clever ways around this dilemma. This spring, WKYS will “Adopt-A-Road” , and “Adopt-A-Bus Stop” . It is absolutely FREE to do both…our favorite word! To “Adopt-A-Road” , you must agree to clean the road 4 times per year and will receive needed cleaning and safety equipment for each cleaning. In exchange for your commitment, you will receive two signs with your company’s name on it. Not only will you receive “needed promotional signage to brand your station;” you will create an opportunity for your listeners to join you in a “community beautification” promotion as they assist you with the community clean up. The process works the exact same way for the “Adopt-A-Bus Stop” program. Again both programs are 100% FREE. From your letter, I see that you are from my neck of the woods. In order to get going on the process to “Adopt-A- Road” reach out to the Highway Administration of Prince George’s County. To begin the process of “Adopt-A-Bus Stop” , log onto www.wmata.com . Once you get on the homepage click on “community outreach,” and you will find the online application. Your station does an excellent job with maintaining relationships with churches throughout your target areas. Take advantage of these relationships and request Praise 104.1 logo inclusion in distributed weekly church programs and logo inclusion on the back of distributed worship fans. This is an excellent way to connect with your consumers while delivering the message of your station. Thank you for your submission, I hope that you find these suggestions helpful in your promotional efforts. Until next time; be bold, be daring, be outrageously unforgettable, and Eventquiste!
