Freshman Transition – Renaissance Style
Presented by Tom Nichols and Pam SmithNorth Stafford High School, Stafford, VA
Why did we create Operation P.A.S.S.?• Facilitates students’ acclimation to their new school and
makes them more comfortable on the first day of school• On Freshman Transition Day, students:
receive their class schedule and locker combination meet their class teachers tour the building throughout the day eat lunch in the cafeteria in order to alleviate any lunchtime stress
when school officially starts VTW – receive first spirit t-shirt for spirit Fridays meet Renaissance Student Leaders for questions
• Getting involved in high school is imperative! • Freshman Transition Day ensures that students are involved at
the outset!
Freshman Transition Day – August 2011
It begins with a welcome sign outside!
The students are greeted in a gauntlet by our staffulty and
student renaissance leaders.

Students receive their class schedules, an Operation P.A.S.S. t-shirt, and assistance in practicing
their locker combination.
Renaissance TAG, Renaissance Coupons and a Classroom Poster
Students autograph a graduation gown and sign their name to their graduation year on the wall
in the school’s hallway.
Students attend informational sessions with counselors and get lunch in an
orderly fashion.
Have the First Renaissance Pep Rally Recognize Staffulty
Teachers are introduced by their departments
Reinforce Student Success - Ask students to stand who: Passed their SOLs in 8th grade (test scores) Proud to be a Wolverine Play a sport at North Stafford Joined the Marching Band Successfully completed Operation P.A.S.S.
Reward Students and Staffulty Have a fun competitive game or two to show school spirit
Students and Staffulty modeling Dress Code Violations!
