Message From Our Pastor
Within this edition of Connections, we have taken the opportunity
to highlight some of the recent activities in our parish. As you will
see, we have been quite busy since the church and chapel dedication
in not only our pastoral mission, but also in planning and working on
several facility improvements in the new church and chapel, as well
as in the Great hall. I hope you will like what we are doing.
Summer is nearly behind us, and many of you are getting ready for school, some lo-
cally with middle and high school, and others departing for college. I wish all of our
parish students, and their families, a safe and prosperous school year. I will keep you all
in my prayers throughout the year.

Mensaje de Nuestro Párroco
En esta edición de Connections, hemos aprovechado la oportunidad para destacar al-
gunas de las actividades recientes en nuestra parroquia. Como ustedes leerán, hemos
estado muy ocupados desde la dedicación de nuestra iglesia y capilla no solo en nuestra
misión pastoral, sino también planeando y trabajando en mejorar diferentes áreas de
nuestras instalaciones de la nueva iglesia y capilla, de igual manera en el Gran Salón.
Espero que les guste lo que estamos haciendo.
El verano está por terminar y muchos de ustedes están listos para la escuela, algunos
de manera local en la secundaria y preparatoria y otros para ir a la universidad. Deseo a
todos los estudiantes de la parroquia, y sus familias, un seguro y próspero año escolar.
Los mantengo en mis oraciones durante el año.

NEW WINDOWS—In the picture above, a
craftsman from Willet Hauser Stained Glass
company applies his skill to complete the
installation of the latest stained glass window in
our church that depicts St. Francis and the Crèche,
above right. Immediately below St. Francis is St.
John Bosco. In addition, Willet Hauser installed a
beautiful stained glass of Our Lady of Lourdes.
We have been blessed with a tremendous
parishioner response to sponsor the stained glass
windows in the church and chapel. As a matter of
fact, all the windows in both buildings have been
sponsored and are in various stages of final
production. As unique works of art, each window
is crafted with delicate skills that, understandably,
take several months to complete Accordingly, we
will install the remaining stained glass windows as
they are completed and delivered to the parish. We
hope you agree that the stained glass window are
wonderful additions to our new church and chapel.
GREAT HALL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT —
In July, work began to upgrade the Great Hall to
permit the room to be divided
into three separate areas that
will allow for simultaneous
meetings and other activities.
To accomplish the separation,
the sliding walls will pull open and the area above
each sliding wall has been fully covered and
painted from the top of the sliding wall to the
ceiling. The area can be opened up to permit use of
the entire large floor space by simply retracting the
sliding walls. In addition to the work on the
trusses, a new sound system will be installed along
with upgraded acoustic material placed on all the
walls. The upgrades will provide a very special
place for community gathering and youth events.
ACTS RETREATS FOR MEN & WOMEN— Wonderful spiritual retreats are available this fall
for men and women. Please contact Steve Lam

these outstanding weekend retreats.

PARISH YOUTH MISSION TRIP—For a
week in late July, parish youth went to Oklaho-
ma to help the community cleanup from the af-
termath of the terrible tornados of last spring. 45
youth, led by Fr. Zach, staff and chaperones,
went on this exemplary Mission Trip to help
with food and clothing sorting and distribution,
repairing damaged homes, and door-to-door/face
-to-face outreach in communities around Okla-
homa City. They are truly examples of St. Fran-
cis’ mission.
TASTE OF ST. FRANCIS and FRISCO
CORALE—On Saturday, May 31, the parish
hosted two wonderful events that together made
for one of the best evenings to be had in Frisco.
After the 5 PM Mass, the Taste of St. Francis
was held in the Great Hall. Samples of many
different and very tasty appetizers and main
dishes were offered in small bites to many hun-
gry parishioners. As you see in the picture on the
upper right, the desserts were also plentiful .
The second event after 5 PM Mass was a first for
our parish and for our new church. Following
the Taste of St. Francis, the Frisco Chorale pre-
sented a stirring recital of Mozart’s Requiem and
several other beautiful religious songs in our new
church to approximately 800 parishioners and
guests. Several members of our parish choir
more than ably demonstrated their vocal skills as
members of the Chorale in what was an abso-
lutely superb vocal and musical event.
These events are just a few examples of the
many activities going on at St. Francis.

Great Food at the Taste of St. Francis
NUEVAS VENTANAS—En la foto de la página
dos, un artesano de la compañía de Willet Hauser
Stained Glass con sus habilidades está terminando
de instalar el vitral más reciente de nuestra iglesia
que representa a San Francisco y el Nacimiento,
arriba en el lado derecho. En la parte de abajo de
San Francisco está San Juan Bosco. Además,
Willet Hauser instaló un hermoso vitral de Nuestra
Señora de Lourdes.
Hemos sido bendecidos con una respuesta
increíble de los feligreses para donar los vitrales en
la iglesia y capilla. De hecho, todas las ventanas en
ambos edificios han sido donados y están en
diferentes etapas de la producción final. Como
obras de arte únicas, cada ventana está hecha a
mano con delicadas habilidades que, se
comprende, requiere varios meses para acabarlos,
por lo tanto instalaremos los vitrales que faltan
cuando los vayan terminando y entregando a la
parroquia. Esperamos que estén de acuerdo que los
vitrales son maravillosas adiciones a nuestra nueva
iglesia y capilla.
PROYECTO DE MEJORAMIENTO AL GRAN
SALÓN— En julio, iniciaron los trabajos para
mejorar el Gran Salón que nos permitirá dividir el
salón en tres áreas separadas y podremos tener
juntas simultáneas y otras actividades. Para hacer
la separación, las paredes que se despliegan se
empujarán para abrirse, y la parte de cada pared
desplegable ha sido completamente cubierta y
pintada hasta arriba de la
pared plegada hasta el techo.
El área puede ser abierta para
permitir el uso de toda el área simplemente
abriendo las paredes plegables. Adicional al
trabajo de los paneles, un nuevo equipo de sonido
será instalado junto con un material acústico
colocado en todas las paredes. Las mejoras
proveerán un lugar muy especial para los eventos
de la comunidad y de los jóvenes.
RETIROS DE ACTS PARA HOMBRES Y
MUJERES—Maravillosos retiros espirituales se
realizarán este otoño para hombres y mujeres. Por
primera habrán retiros en español, aunque los
grupos están llenos, tendremos más en el otoño del
próximo año.

VIAJE DE MISIONES DEL GRUPO JUVENIL
DE LA PARROQUIA—Durante una semana a fi-
nales del mes de julio el grupo juvenil fue a
Oklahoma para ayudar a la comunidad a limpiar las
secuelas de los terribles tornados de la primavera
pasada. 45 jóvenes, dirigidos por el P. Zach, cola-
boradores y adultos con ambiente seguro, fueron a
este ejemplar Viaje de Misiones para ayudar con la
comida y ropa organizando y distribuyendo, repa-
rando los daños a las casas, y puerta a puerta/cara a
cara ayudaron a las comunidades alrededor de la
ciudad de Oklahoma. Ellos son verdaderos ejem-
plos de la misión de San Francisco.
UNA PROBADITA DE SAN FRANCISCO Y EL
CORO DE FRISCO—El sábado 31 de mayo la pa-
rroquia realizó dos maravillosos eventos que juntos
hicieron una de las mejores veladas para pasar en
Frisco. Después de la Misa de 5:00 pm, el evento
Una Probadita de San Francisco se llevó a cabo en
el Gran Salón. Muestras de muchos diferentes y
muy ricas entradas y platos fuertes fueron ofrecidos
en bocadillos para muchos feligreses hambrientos.
Como ustedes ven la foto, los postres fueron tam-
bién bastos.
El segundo evento después de la Misa de 5:00 PM
fue la primera vez para nuestra parroquia y para
nuestra nueva Iglesia. Después de Una Probadita
de San Francisco, el Coro de Frisco presentó un
recital de Mozart y muchas otras maravillosas can-
ciones religiosas en nuestra nueva parroquia con
aproximadamente 800 feligreses e invitados. Varios
miembros del coro de nuestra parroquia demostra-
ron sus habilidades vocales como miembros del Co-
ro el cual fue un evento musical y vocal totalmente
extraordinario.

Parish Youth Mission Trip to Oklahoma
A message from The Annual Mexican Dinner and
Cultural Day Board: The plans are underway for the 40
th Annual Mexican
Dinner and Cultural Day (AMDCD), one of the
most fun-filled historical events in our parish. This
celebration will take place on Saturday, September
27th.
This is a major milestone and achievement for our
church, and we hope you will join us for what is
always one of the best events in yearly life of the
parish. Parish ministries pool their resources to plan
and host this wonderful family-oriented event, which
recognizes and honors our past along with
celebrating our diverse community. With a large
number expected to attend, your assistance to
develop and run this event will be greatly
appreciated.
As you may know, our parish began thru a group
of Spanish-speaking ranch hands and farm workers
who would gather at a home first on N. County Rd
and then at a home on the corner of Eldorado
Parkway and Preston Road for Sunday Mass. In the
hopes of one day having a place to worship, they
started a fundraiser in 1974 where they would
prepare and sell a delicious homemade Mexican
Dinner. Throughout the years, this successful event
has provided funds as a major fundraiser to the
Building Fund for the new church and chapel. As a
result of their vision, these early parishioners truly
laid the foundation of the parish and the magnificent
worship spaces we now enjoy.
Last year, AMDCD was able to generate $7000 for
the Building Fund—hopefully, we can be as
successful this year. It is an understatement to say
that our parish has grown, having increased from 275
families in the mid-1990s to more than 7000
registered families in 2014. With such a large parish
family, we hope to continue
building our community and
fostering Christian
Discipleship in this year’s
AMDCD. Along with great
attendance from our
parishioners and the usual great ministry support, we
anticipate having another extraordinary event.
In past years, the event was mainly held outside.
Unfortunately, the heat and rain sometimes
impacted us and made for an unpleasant time.
However, this year, we will have the displays and
events inside the comfort of the Great Hall. Bounce
houses for the kids will be outside.
So, even if your ministry is unable to help, please
encourage all of your members, and fellow
parishioners alike, to attend–-they will surely have a

We would be happy to come to your meeting to
further discuss this event.
With everyone’s help, this truly will be the grand
celebration we all envision. We are so blessed to
have our parish and all her members.

As we look ahead toward Advent, we would like
for you to know the Hispanic community celebrates
that holy season with a special tradition called La
Pastorela. This celebration in December is a
theatrical representation hosted amongst family,
friends, parishes, all across Latin America to reflect
on Mary and Joseph’s journey for the place the world
would receive the miracle of Jesus' birth (the
Nativity scene).
The Nativity is acted out by a group of participants
with different roles, Mary and Joseph, the various
Inn Keepers and ideally a baby Jesus. Mary and
Joseph sing the Posada song (lyrics represent Mary’s
and Joseph’s request for space from the Inn Keeper)
while another group responds as the Mesonero who
don't have availability to receive Joseph and
Mary. Finally, as they are received in the stable,
both groups join by holding candles with a final song
enlightening and announcing Jesus' birth. Please join
us in December for this wonderful Advent tradition.

Mensaje del Comité de la Comida Anual Mexicana
y Día Cultural
Los planes han comenzado para la 40a Comida Mexi-
cana Anual y Día Cultural (AMDCD), uno de los
eventos históricos más divertidos en nuestra parro-
quia. Esta celebración será el sábado 27 de septiem-
bre.
Este es un acontecimiento y un logro importante para
nuestra parroquia, y esperamos que ustedes asistan a lo
que siempre ha sido uno de los mejores eventos anuales
en la vida de la parroquia. Ministerios de la parroquia
se organizan y unen esfuerzos para planear y ser anfi-
triones de este maravilloso evento familiar, el cual or-
ganiza y honra a nuestro pasado junto con la celebra-
ción de la diversidad de la comunidad. Con un gran
número de asistentes esperados, tu asistencia para desa-
rrollar y hacer este evento será agradecido grandemen-
te.
Como ustedes saben, nuestra parroquia inició a través
de un grupo de personas hispanas que trabajaban en los
campos quienes se reunían primeramente en una casa al
North County y después en la casa de la esquina de El
Dorado Parkway y la calle de Preston para la Misa del
Domingo. Con la esperanza de un día tener un lugar
para adorar, ellos iniciaron con un evento de recauda-
ción de fondos en 1974 donde ellos prepararon y ven-
dieron una deliciosa Comida Mexicana hecha en casa.
A través de los años, este exitoso evento ha dado fon-
dos como uno de los eventos más grandes de recauda-
ción para el Fondo de Construcción para la nueva igle-
sia y capilla. Como resultado de su visión, esos prime-
ros feligreses realmente pusieron la fundación de la
iglesia y de los magníficos espacios de adoración de los
que ahora disfrutamos.
El año pasado, la AMDCD generó $7000 para los
Fondos de Construcción—esperamos, que podamos ser
tan exitosos este año. No estamos desestimando al de-
cir que nuestra parroquia ha crecido, incrementado de
275 familias a mediados de los 90’s a más de 7000 fa-
milias registradas en el 2014. Con una familia parro-
quial tan grande, esperamos continuar construyendo
nuestra comunidad y fomentando un Discipulado Cris-
tiano este año en la Comida Anual Mexicana y Día
Cultural. En años anteriores, el evento fue principal-
mente afuera, el calor y la lluvia algunas veces impactó
e hizo un tiempo desagradable. Este año, tendremos las
carpas y eventos adentro del confortable Gran Salón.
Los inflables para los niños estarán afuera.
Por favor motive a todos los miembros, y amigos fe-
ligreses, para asistir – sin dudan ellos se van a divertir
mucho. Por favor comuníquese con Yoheli Perez si
tiene cualquier pregunta o si desea ayudar. Estaremos
felices de ir a sus juntas para promover este evento.
Con la ayuda de todos, esta realmente será la gran cele-
bración que todos visualizamos. Somos bendecidos de
tener una parroquia y todos sus miembros.

Al acercarnos al Adviento, nos gustaría compartirles
que la comunidad hispana en nuestra parroquia cele-
bra esta temporada con la tradicional Pastorela. Co-
mo algunos conocen es la celebración en diciembre
que a través de una representación teatral organizada
entre la familia, amigos, parroquias, en algunos paí-
ses de Latinoamérica reflexionan sobre el camino de
María y José hacia el lugar donde el mundo recibiría
el milagro del nacimiento de Jesús (el Nacimiento).
El Nacimiento es actuado por un grupo de partici-
pantes con diferentes personajes, María y José, va-
rios pastores e idealmente el niño Jesus. María y Jo-
sé piden Posada (canto que representa a María y José
pidiendo posada) mientras que otro grupo responde
como el Mesonero quien no puede recibir a María y
José. Finalmente, mientras que son recibidos en el
establo, ambos grupos se unen sosteniendo velas con
la canción final dando la bienvenida y anunciando el
nacimiento del niño Jesús. Los invitamos en diciem-
bre para esta maravillosa tradición de Adviento. De-
talles adicionales estarán en la siguiente publicación.
