3. What is a material in 3ds Max?

• A material is a set of data defining how an object should appear when rendered by 3ds max.

• A material controls such qualities as the color of the object, how light reflects off the object, and any surface textures applied.

• Pick, hold, and drag the material sample into a viewport and drop it onto an object,

• first select the object, locate the material in the Material Editor, and then pick the Assign Material to Selection button.

• Pick the Files… button in the Render Output area of the Render Scene dialog box.

resulting dialog box that corresponds to the specified file format.
