I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The fall and winter holidays are upon us. They sweep over
us like a tsunami of lights, sounds and smells. It can be a
season of stress. Most of us choose joy, but it’s easy to get
caught up in things that can bring out the humbug in the best
of us. Learn to beat the humbugs of the holidays

The Day of Infamy that launched an epic conflict with
Japan began here one early morning on 7 December 1941,
as the tranquil aquamarine waters of Pearl Harbor were
forever disrupted by the tides of war. The USS Arizona and
1,117 of her crew were among the first casualties of the
Pacific War; today the USS Arizona Memorial stands
above the sunken vessel and her fallen sailors,
serving to remind us of all their sacrifices.

The Marine Corps has a strong legacy of service and a commitment to keep faith with Marines and their families. This legacy of service is the foundation for the Marine Corps support of Marines, Sailors and their families continuing to give back to the community. Volunteers are a true investment and by contributing their skills, knowledge, experience, tools, and community relations to the Marine Corps they make the installation and units more adaptable, resourceful and sustainable. The Marine Corps takes pride in providing volunteers the opportunity to consistently find satisfaction and meaning for their volunteer service. It is offering a unique combination of professional, educational and life benefits to the volunteer through service to the Marine Corps. Designated Volunteer Coordinators are located at each Marine Corps Installation. This person will provide local and installation volunteer opportunities, recommend additional training for volunteers, and collaborate with all programs, units and activities to support volunteerism. How do I find a point of contact at my installation for volunteer information? eMarine for Volunteers can direct Marines, Sailors and their families to the Volunteer Coordinator at each Marine Corps Installation. This website showcases individual volunteers and Installations that demonstrate a Legacy of Service in volunteerism. For more information visit www.emarine.org, click on Featured Links, then click on Volunteer Opportunities. Installation Volunteers Volunteers are needed at most programs and activities at each installation and in the local community outside the gates. Contact your installation Volunteer Coordinator for a listing of local opportunities. As a volunteer additional training opportunities are also available through your local Marine Corps Family Team Building office.
