During the school holidays the Science building refurbishment, after the recent fire, has commenced. We have been advisedthat it will be completed by the end of Week 2, 14 February. Please avoid the area as it is a construction site.

The Early Childhood Centre has a new path from the gate onthe netball court to ECC3. This was completed with the fundsraised by the ECC units at their Bunnings Sausage Sizzle.

SMS System

This is a Departmental SMS form of communication, whichallows parents to connect directly with the school via a mobilenumber.

As parents you can now send messages to advise the schoolthat your child is arriving late or if they are absent or unwell.

Our school will communicate with parents individually, classgroups or send whole school messages. These may includestudent absences or concerns, event reminders, awardrecipients, community concerns, special events or date/timeschanges.

ScienceWelcome back everyone! Hope that you alldid lots of exploring over the holidays.

This term we will be looking at Biology inScience. Biology is the study of living things,so it includes animals, insects, plants, dinosaurs and lots more. Dinosaurs areincluded because they were once living. Inorder for something to be classed as a living

thing it has to be able to perform seven different processes:

One of the best ways you can help your child this term is to getthem looking at things and deciding if they are living, once livingor non-living. A good time to get out in the garden or go for awalk to find the Biology in the world around us!

I am looking forward to a great year exploring the world with ourstudents!

Congratulations to our 2019 Robotics Team

For those that didn't hear our news - our two robotics teamscompeted in the First Lego League competition at ArmadaleSenior High School late 2019. All of the students worked reallywell together to do an amazing job and their results surprisedus all. There are 3 main components to the competition andthe STPS Robot Warriors managed to come 2nd in the Robotcomp. In the top 6 teams they were the only primary schoolteam! This also means that this team has been invited toprogress through to the State Finals which took place onSaturday 14th December.

I want to say a very big thank you to Jenny Liedermoy forhelping me with the coaching each week and also to our parentcoaches, Carina Brown and Michelle Manolas and to TanyaBuckland who helped out on the day. I couldn't have done itwithout them. We had lots of parent support on the day too!

There is a post on the Examiner's FaceBook page about theFLL Robotics competition on Sunday. There are some greatphotos of some of our students and ex-students.

Daily Screen Time

Welcome back everyone!

Now that everyone is getting back into aroutine it is important to think about howmuch screen time kids are getting afterschool hours. Watching TV and playingcomputer games are common activities for

kids. The Department of Health has recommended that childrenonly get 2 hours of screen time a day. This includes the use ofiPads, Tablets, Computers, Laptops, Phones and Tv’s.

It is important that Children enjoy lots of healthy, fun activities, both with and without screens, including physical activity, reading, creative play and social time with family and friends.

Strategies to manage screen time could include:
