U From The Principals Primary School Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members, Our Year 3’s and 5’s have completed their NAPLAN testing this week, which will provide the school with data for driving future improvement and planning. I was pleased to see students seemed settled and reasonably relaxed prior to the testing with teachers spreading the message that all we expect is for them to try their best. Our Year 6 students are getting very excited about next week’s camp to Bridgetown. Staff have been working hard behind the scenes to have everything ready to go for next week and looking at the itinerary, students are in for a fun filled four days. No doubt there will be some photographic evidence in the next edition. Semester one reports will go home in the last week of this term. If you have any pressing queries or concerns about your child’s progress, please contact your child’s classroom teacher to organise a meeting. Semester one reports will provide an overview of progress made so far in 2016 across all learning areas . Although the weather is cooling down, students are still required to wear their hats for fitness and outside play to reduce exposure to the sun. Further information about the school and updates can be found at our website or on our school app. http://www.endeavourschools.wa.edu.au/ Phil Springett - Principal Education Support Centre Dear Parents and Caregivers, Our Year 6 students are off at camp next week and we have managed to arrange to cover all their jobs quite well with the students from Years 4 and 5 who will take over these responsibilities while the others are away. Year 6 camp is a great experience for the students and I am sure they will all be bringing back fond memories of their camp experience when they return. I’m so pleased that so many of our students are able to attend this year and I wish them all the best for this fantastic real life experience! Meanwhile our Year 3 and 5 students participated in NAPLAN last week. Congratulations to you all for the fantastic job you have done of following your teacher’s instructions for the testing and doing your best. A great effort girls and boys! We are very proud of our representatives in the ESC Schools Alive Choir this year who are Lauren Gross, Marlee Hall and Bailey Benton. These students have been practising every week with Miss B and are going to have a very busy time with choir performances throughout this year. This is a great opportunity for our students and we really appreciate all the hard work that goes into preparing the students for their performances. Well done everyone – we can’t wait until the end of this term when you perform for us at our Schools. Keep your eyes open for our Year 4/5 and 6 students on Wednesdays who are participating in our Transport Training program this term. They are learning all about road safety, catching the bus following a timetable and using money to do some shopping as well. This is a valuable program for all students in order to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence in the community. We hope they enjoy their weekly outings this term. Room 16 and 17 have had a fantastic start to Term Two! Both classes

have a busy term ahead of them and we have been working hard to

complete our NAPLAN tests to the best of our abilities.

This term we also have our

Peter Combe’s incursion,

which will be awesome. If

you haven’t paid yet,

remember to do so by Friday,

13th May.

On Thursday, 19th May it will be

Room 16 and 17’s assembly item. We

have been practicing very hard and

can’t wait to perform it in front of the

whole school.

In Term Two, we have also been very

creative in the Art Room with Mrs Dawson.

We have used lots of interesting materials

and techniques to create some special art

works. We can’t wait to do some more!

Thank you Mrs Dawson.

In Music, we have also learned

about pop-stick rhythm. Thank

you Mrs Nurse.

Teach your child new skills by first showing the skill yourself, then giving your child opportunities to learn the new skill. For example, speak politely to each other in the

home. Then, prompt your child to speak politely (e.g., say ‘please’ or ‘thank you’), and praise your child for their efforts.

Triple P hold Seminar Series and Positive Parenting courses throughout the year. These courses provide valuable parenting strategies for your child’s development and behaviour. All courses are advertised on the Noticeboard outside the staffroom or you can visit www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/Triple_P

At Endeavour Schools we are always looking for ways to enhance children’s learning experiences and help them

develop the skills they need for school and throughout life. In view of this we are going to be trialling the MindUp

program in EC2 and EC4 during 2016.

The MindUp program (Hawn Foundation) encourages frequent daily breathing practice to assist students attend

to and concentrate on the learning activities as well as deal with common stressful situations mindfully. Students will learn about how important ‘players’ in the brain work and

the benefits of positive thinking and gratitude. These lessons will run throughout the year.

U Community Notices

Please check the noticeboard outside the staffroom regularly for

community events and sporting information received by the schools.

Notices in the Community Advertising section are inserted for your

information. The schools are not associated with any of these groups or

businesses.

Endeavour Schools have EFTPOS facilities available in the front office. This facility can

be used for payments over $5 such as contributions, swimming lessons or

excursions. Smaller amounts must go through the class money books.

Parents are encouraged to make payments in

advance for any future expenses such as swimming lessons, incentivals and excursions.

These payments will be held as credit in your

child’s account and then allocated against excursions as they occur.

Payment can be made by cash, EFTPOS or direct deposit. Credit card payments can be made over

the phone as well as in the office.

A change to our payment plan policy will mean that all incursions / excursions will need to be paid IN FULL before the due date otherwise your child

may not be eligible to attend.

If you require any more information, please see the front office.

With the onset of the colder weather, already lots of students and parents are coming into the front office looking for lost jumpers. Please ensure that all items of clothing, drink bottles and lunch boxes are clearly labelled with your child’s name so that we can return them to students when they are found. If your child happens to come home with an item which does not belong to them, please have the courtesy to return it to the school so we can return it to its rightful owner. Thankyou.

It is a requirement by the Education Department to receive all immunisation records from the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) print out. This can be obtained by calling 1800 653 809. If your child’s immunisations are not recorded on ACIR it may affect your family payments. An immunisation provider will assist children not up–to-date or vaccinated overseas to receive the correct scheduled vaccinations and have their records put on ACIR. The nurses at the immunisation clinic at Kwinana Community Health 9419 2266 can also provide this service. Please ring to book an appointment. Parents can also get updated information regarding immunisation from the link below. http://www.public.health.wa.gov.au/1/51/2/immunisation_for_community.pm Once your child has had their immunisations, please provide a copy to the school office. Thankyou.
