Increase the performance of your MTS 3100 Mastertech oscilloscope with theoptional purchase Enhanced Diagnostic Lead Set (EDLS).

The EDLS expands the capabilities of the MTS 3100 Mastertech by enablingyou to measure high voltage signals on automotive components and systems,including sensors, actuators and spark ignition systems. You can now measureup to 600V directly, and up to 50kV with a kV pick up probe.

Data List mode retrieves all diagnostic data parameterinformation that is reported by the vehicle’s OBD II controller.The Data List can be user tailored to balance the amount ofdata displayed with the update rate. If all diagnostic dataparameters are displayed, the data will be updated every 3-4 seconds. Switching to the User List mode and then selectingthe desired parameters will improve the update rate. Forexample, you can select a single parameter and get an updaterate of approximately 8 times per second. While in Data Listmode, you will be allowed to choose from a number ofdisplay formats listed below.

Key Help displays a list of all activekeys for the current mode or screen along with a briefsummary of the function that each key performs. MULTIPLE ECU SUPPORT

Some vehicles can send OBDII information to the tester frommore than one ECU. For example, both an engine and atransmission controller may report engine RPM and throttleposition to the tester. When a data parameter is reported bymore than one ECU, the MTS 3100 Mastertech will alert theoperator. The MTS 3100 will also notify the user whetherthese parameters have similar (=) or different (>) values asreported by the ECUs.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

The DTC function displays a list of Diagnostic TroubleCodes (DTCs) and their descriptors, along with the ID ofthe ECU reporting them and how many codes have beenreported. If more than one ECU is present in the vehicle,you can sequence through the code list for each of the ECUs,displaying two DTCs per screen. It will also indicate withan “*” whether there is Freeze Frame Data available forthat DTC. Pending DTCs are displayed in a format identicalto normal DTCs and are selectable from the DTC menu.

FREEZE DATA

Vehicle ECUs save information about the state of the vehiclewhen a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) occurs. This data isreferred to as Freeze Frame Data and can be read by the testerusing the Freeze Data function. This function can be selectedfrom the DTC menu, or it can be invoked from the DTCdisplay mode. Multiple frames of Freeze Frame Data will bedisplayed for selection if they are supported by the OBD IIcontroller. The data is displayed in the Data List format. Thefirst parameter in the list is the Trouble Code that caused theFreeze Data to be saved.

SNAPSHOT

Snapshot function provides a method of storing diagnosticdata parameter information. Data is saved in the Mastertechwhile the tester is waiting for a trigger condition. Once amanual or DTC trigger occurs, data continues to be saveduntil the snapshot is complete. This allows data to be savedboth before and after the trigger. Users can select the triggerpoint (how much data is saved after the trigger occurs). Thedisplay indicates graphically and numerically where the trig-ger point is located relative to the start and end of the Snap-shot data buffer. Snapshot data can be printed or recalled ata later time even after the tester has been powered down.

CLEAR DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION

The Clear Diagnostic Information function is used to clearDTCs from vehicle ECUs along with any other diagnosticinformation that the controller has saved, such as FreezeFrame Data and Readiness Test information. A prompt screenis displayed to prevent inadvertent clearing of the diagnosticinformation.

OXYGEN SENSOR TEST RESULTS

The OBD II system can provide Oxygen Sensor (O2S) TestResults for multiple oxygen sensors. The O2S Test Resultsfunction queries the ECU to determine which oxygen sensorsare present. It displays a list of these sensors so you can selectone to examine. The MTS 3100 Mastertech then displays allavailable parameters for the selected oxygen sensor.

INFORMATION

The Information mode displays identification informationprovided by the vehicle’s OBD II controller. Informationcan include the VIN, Calibration ID which uniquelyidentifies the ECU software, and Calibration VerificationNumber which determines if emission calibrations in theECU have been altered.

READINESS TESTS

The Readiness Test function allows you to monitor the statusof various on-board tests that are performed by vehicle ECUs.These tests must run for the DTC and Test Results displaysto accurately reflect the health of the vehicle's emissions-related components. This function indicates which tests arecomplete, incomplete, or not available (N/A) for the vehiclebeing tested.

ADDITIONAL TEST RESULTS

The Mastertech supports additional on-board test results thatare specific to the vehicle manufacturer. If supported, thesetests can provide a pass/fail status of many tests run by theOBD II controller. Test definition can be obtained by themanufacturer.

screen can be moved to the left andright so any portion of the waveformcan be easily viewed. Data gatheredbefore the trigger point allows thesignal to be displayed so that all thenecessary information can be seen. Inan ignition waveform, this includesdwell, firing kV, burn time and voltage,and coil oscillations.

The MFT Pro-Card contains theuser interface and data display soft-ware. This software allows the Mas-tertech to function as a serial datatester, digital voltage/frequency/duty cycle meter, or oscilloscope.

The card also contains a Tech Toolbox,which supports math functions (calcu-lator, unit conversion, formula compu-tation), clock functions (stop watch,count down timer) and shop functions(parts, labor and total estimates, techni-cian earnings). In addition, the MFT pro-gram card contains the Generic OBD IIapplication software.

MFT 8MB Program CardNew products that will be utilizing

software residing on this new high ca-pacity MFT 8MB Pro-Card include: theIgnition Scope Analyzer and, the Cur-rent and Temperature Probes. In addi-tion, the Pro-Card can contain the af-termarket OEM software for the newAsian Imports Pro-Series. This will in-clude coverage for Honda, Acura,Toyota, Lexus and Kia.

The program card software can be re-programmed with the addition of eachnew Pro-Series product. These prod-ucts may be purchased separately orin combination with the Pro-Card.

The 8MB Pro-Card contains thesoftware that allows the MTS 3100Mastertech to operate as a multi-function tester or oscilloscope.
