Your donation to the Wilmington University Annual Fund has already made a difference in the lives of many of our students. Thanks to donors like you, we were able to present 81 new scholarships and awards to our students at a special ceremony in June. All of the funds that you have donated were used directly for scholarships and other benefits for our students. For many, the dream of a university degree is now a reality. The students pictured in the pages of this report represent the many ways that you have helped them, and their comments to you are heartfelt.

Many of you have chosen to make donations in memory of fellow students and staff at the University. Some of you contribute by honoring friends, while others patronize the Green and White Scholarship Ball or the Scholarship Golf Classic. No matter how you help us raise funds, we appreciate your support. When you contribute to the future of the students at Wilmington University, you are also investing in the future of the region.

you!The Alumni Department wanted participation and the faculty and staff rallied together to make it happen. Under the direction of Dr. Thomas B. Cupples, Assistant Vice President, the Alumni Department launched the first Proud Donor campaign. The campaign offered faculty and staff the opportunity to support the Wilmington University Annual Fund and donate to student scholarships. It was a success, and within a month, participation sprang up among the donors.

The idea for the Proud Donor Campaign started after the department noted the success of the annual Green and White Scholarship Ball and the Annual Scholarship Golf Classic.

To kick off the campaign, donor buttons were presented to the donors and raffle drawings were held each week to show appreciation. Throughout the campaign, the

committee members handed out candy bars and other incentives each time they saw an employee wearing a donor button.

A festive “Cupcake Social” closed the campaign, which ended with a grand prize raffle drawing at each site. All sites celebrated at the same time and shared each other’s event via web conference to show support. Each site had a representative to ask questions. Gloria Johnson, Director of the Annual Fund, and Brandi Purcell, Alumni Associate, organized all of the events surrounding the Proud Donor campaign.

During the month-long campaign, from February 16 to March 16, 2012, participation increased from 10 percent to an astounding 63 percent faculty and staff participation. They are confident that next year the Proud Donor campaign will increase to 100%. Dr. Noah Drezner, a

nationally recognized expert in philanthropy, noted that the national average for faculty and staff giving is 35 percent.

“We appreciate employee volunteers for their enthusiasm in participating in the premiere campaign,” expressed Gloria Johnson. “We truly came together as a family of faculty and staff for the benefit of our current and future students.”

The Alumni Department would like to recognize the employee committee members at each site who worked diligently to make this four-week campaign a success.

Thank you to all of the Proud Donor Campaign participants who are helping students achieve their dream of earning a degree in higher education. The department looks forward to continuing the Proud Donor campaign annually.

Department held its Annual Scholarship Golf Classic at Cavaliers Country Club. Some 136 golfers participated to raise funds, which go directly to the WilmU scholarship fund. Each golfer was able to enjoy a lunch, provided by Chick-fil-A, kielbasa at the 9th hole turnaround, and refreshments throughout the day. Participants were also presented with the opportunity to beat the Cavalier Country Club’s golf pro.Later that evening, 180 guests attended the 19th Hole Celebration, which included dinner, awards, a silent auction, and entertainment from the band Thoughts in Common, featuring Anita King. Scholarship recipients Michelle Yang and Michael Sammons were in attendance that evening and thanked everyone for their support of the scholarship fund.“I would like to thank all of those who gener-ously donated to the Wilmington University Scholarship Fund,” said Michelle. “You helped me by allowing me to attend college and showing me that it is no joke – academically or financially. I appreciate all the time and effort that everyone has made in making my college education a reality.” “Without the scholarship donors, none of these scholarships would even be possible,” said Michael. “The support that has been given from all the donors has helped me achieve my goal in graduating, and for that I am truly grateful. Thank you.”
