DescriptionofPlan:FruitfarmsandvineyardsprovideopenspaceandscenicvistasthataddsignificantlytothequalityoflifeinMassachusetts.Thelandssurroundingagriculturalproductionprovidebufferzonesfornativespeciesofplantsandanimalsandcorridorsfortheirmovementorexpansion.ToremainavitalpartoftheMassachusettseconomy,bothnewandestablishedgrowersmustlearntoproducecropssustainablyandtoadaptproductionsystemstomarketopportunities.Newvarietiesprovidefruitfarmerswithopportunitiesforenhancingproduction,quality,salesandconsumption.UMassExtensionprovidesfarmerswithaccesstocurrentresearchinformationonnewandalternativespeciesandvarieties,advancedhorticulturalmanagementtechniques,marketingandbusinessmanagementstrategies,pest-ecology,andpest-managementprocedures.Researchonpestecologyandmanagementinformsapproachesthatoptimizecontrol,reducechemicaluseandincreasefruitquality.TheknowledgeandresourcesprovidedbyExtensionforgesuccessfulpartnershipswithMassachusetts’sfruitproducersthatinturnfosteramoresecure,diverseandhealthfulfoodsupplyfortheCommonwealth.Situation&Priorities:- IntegratedPestManagement-thefruitprogramdeliverscurrentIPMinformationandtrainingvia

publications,newsletters,twilightmeetings,educationalprograms,andotheroutputs.- EconomicallyViableFoodProduction-thefruitprogramhelpsgrowersachievemoreeconomically
