Preface

The growth of digital illustration is accelerating

year by year in the area of animation, comics and

games. Its quality is enhanced by the synergetic effect

of a long history of doujinshi sokubaikai (convention

of independently published comics) which has

continued over a few decades. These illustration works

are receiving attention from overseas as a culture

representative of today's Japan. While illustration

community websites such as “pixiv" and “drawr” are

flourishing and the number of people who show and

look at original illustration works on personal websites

is also rising, the recent growth of attention to digital

illustration is surprising both in Japan and overseas.

This book introduces representative work and

profiles of 100 illustrators active in the digital

illustration world, especially emphasizing pictures

featuring bishojo (beautiful girl) characters. It includes

works by both professional artists who work in the

commercial field doing work such as cover illustration

for light novel (a type of novel for young adults

in Japan) books and character design for games or

animations and amateur artists who show their works

on pixiv or in doujinshi, along with their CV and

information about the production environment. This

book can also be used as a creator directory .

We will be happy if the high quality work in

this book meet the eyes of more people and we can

contribute to the broadening of the culture.

other related companies.

On each page, the illustrator's profile, website URL and message are included. Each work is

numbered serially and the information about its first appearance, production and release year

and credit can be referred to in each spread. The illustrators' personal data, such as birthday,

blood type, and production environment, is gathered at the end of the book.
