THE Mayor, Esperanza Oña,

presented the fifth edition of

the ‘day of the dog’, which

will be held on April 6 at the

River Park.

The day aims to honour the

work of dogs in society, as

companions or as professionals

working with the armed forces,

rescue or guides for the

disabled.

The day will start with a

walk from Plaza de España

from 10.30am.

Oña said that Fuengirola is

an animal-loving city which

defends harmonious living

between people and pets.

She pointed out that the city

would soon have a second dog

park and a beach which will

allow access to dogs. At the

meeting before the walk, those

who attend with their pets will

get a gift of a container for bags

to collect dog excrement, to

encourage people to keep the

streets clean.

Once at the river park there

will be exhibitions,

competitions and stands with

products for pets. There will

also be dogs which need

homes. Oña pointed out that

she adopted her own dog one

year at the day of the dog.

There will be training and

agility exhibitions and free

training workshops for

everyone. There will also be a

photo competition and a bar

selling food and drink.

A special day for dogs and owners

MAYOR Esperanza Oña presented the

project for the second phase of the River

Park, which has been put out for public

tender with a budget of €1.56 million.

Work will be carried out on a 74,420m2

area and the aim is to give it a more natural

look and complete the conversion of the

zone surrounding the Fuengirola River into

a unique leisure space.

As well as work at the river, there are a

number of side projects, including an

artificial pond for birds to nest, an aromatic

park, a roundabout and lights with low

energy consumption.

The mayor said that council was pleased

to be complying with an electoral promise

and that the park is popular is with locals

and visitors from other towns as well as

further afield.

The second phase will include areas for

walking and resting, she explained, as well

as a cycle lane which will lead to the

shopping centre.

There will be five main entrances,

including one at the Miramar bridge and

there will be a walkway from one side of the

river to another.

Forty companies have expressed interest

in the project, and many have presented their

offers to the town hall. A third of the cost

will be paid by the town hall and the work is

due to take six months.

The first phase of the River Park opened

in October 2011 and cost €1.2 million. It

included sports, walking and leisure areas.

Plans include a large pond and an aromatic garden.

THE Councillor for New Technologies,

Juan Lazo, reported that so far this year, his

department has issued 504 digital

certificates.

This is 300 per cent more than the same

period last year.

The website, www.fuengirola.es, offers

many procedures which can be carried from

home out if one has a digital certificate,

which can be obtained for free.

To get one, go to the fourth floor of the

Town Hall to the department of New

Technologies.

However, before that, it is necessary to go

to the website of the Royal Mint (Fabrica

Nacional de Moneda y Timbre) to obtain a

code which is needed to get a digital

certificate. To get one from the town hall, it

is also necessary to be registered on the

municipal census (padron), have paid taxes

or registered a document in the town at

some time.

Some of the procedures which can be

carried out online are payment of taxes,

direct debiting, obtaining permits for small

building projects, request information about

lost property or the use of sports facilities.

More digital certificates issued this year

WITHIN the next few weeks, taxis in Fuengirola will

use their new tariffs which have recently been

approved. Once all of the taxis have new meters, the

price system will be much easier.

Benalmadena, Mijas and Torremolinos.

New set prices for taxis

The new tariffs will benefit taxi passengers.

Town hallinstallsdefibrillatorFUENgIROLA Town

Hall has become safer

thanks to the installation

of a defibrillator.

The town hall is not

obliged to have one, but

thanks to collaboration

with Prevention Society

FREMAP, one has been

installed at no cost to the

municipal coffers.

It is located at the

entrance and staff or

visitors with knowledge

of CPR can use it.

Thirty per cent of

deaths in Spain are due to

heart diseases, the first

cause of death in the

country. This is why

defibrillators are being

installed in public places.

The councillor in

charge of Staff, Pedro

Vega, accompanied by

the manager for Eastern

Andalucia of FREMAP,

Maria Paz Barrio,

announced that the Town

Hall had been named a

‘cardioprotected’ area.

There are also

defibrillators in

Fuengirola at the Elola

Sports Complex and at

the Maria Pelaez

Municipal Swimming

Pool.

FUENgIROLA will have a

Municipal Refuse disposal

Spot five days a week at the

fairground from April 1, from

8am to 2pm.

In 2013, the service dealt

with 1,500 kilos of refuse,

making it easier for local

residents to dispose of large

objects and items which

cannot be thrown in rubbish

containers, such as tyres,

white goods and others.

The Refuse disposal Spot

opened in May 2012 at the

fairground, and at no cost to

the municipal coffers, it will

be available three more days.

The service provides a

vehicle with several

containers for different

domestic items which can be

dangerous to dispose of

otherwise.

The Councillors for the

Environment and Cleaning,

dolores Buzon and Pedro

Vega respectively, informed

local residents of the

improvement to the service

and encouraged them to use it

and collaborate with

recycling.

Buzon pointed out that last

year, more than 1,485 kilos of

such refuse were recycled in

Fuengirola, which shows the

commitment of local

residents in caring for the

environment.

She also said that it was

totally free for people to use

and dispose of paint, varnish,

dissolvent, tyres, batteries, oil,

bulbs, fluorescent items, x-

rays, medicines, white goods,

phone and computer

equipment, printer and

photocopier cartridges. This

prevents them for being

disposed of in areas where

they could cause damage, and

means they can be recycled.

There is also a recycling

service provided by the

Ecomovil from the Costa del

Sol Community of

Municipalities, on the second

and fourth Thursday of every

month at the fairground.

she was accompanied by the Councillor

for Tourism, ignacio souviron.

The first prize was a month’s free

advertising on fuengirola TV.

More establishments than ever took

part this year and 5,000 more dishes

were sold at the affordable price of €2

including a drink.

The aim of the event is to promote

local establishments and support

business owners, as well as allowing

people to get to know traditional

recipes. The council thanked the main

sponsor, san Miguel, as well as local

businesses and restaurants. There were

prizes for people who visited the

restaurants including holidays and hotel
