Dear Brethren:

Christian greetings to all of you in the uionderful name of our Lord OesusChrist. Hou ue thank God for all of you who are so faithfully undsrgxrdingour efforts in these critical days. Ue pray that our Lord shall so strang-^'liunyour faith so that you shall be ready on that glorious day of His return.

We give thanks to the Lord that the Cape Bible Seminary ia now luell into ito j)second year with lessons this term on OLD TESTAMENT HiSTORV; ACTS and THE yjORGANIZATION OF TIME.

Last Lord's Day there was a baptismal service at Hermanus. Brothex' Zimmernnnwas there while I brought a lesson at GUGULETU.

New classes and services have begun this year on a farm at the font of Six'Lowry's Pass, some 30 miles east. Meetings are held in the home of QrotherAlbert Koduana. The brethren are excited about this new work, and enter er,-^thusiastically into the questions and discussions after the lesson.

Plans for Easter are for the Zimmermans and me to travel to TRANSHEI forteaching, ordinations end preaching services, and also tc assist in thesetting up of an indigenous TRANSHEI BIBLE SEMINARY.

Last Saturday I helped Al with some work on his XHC':}A BIBLE CONCORDANCE. Itis a very big project, but now reaching the final stages.

Wednesday classes are held at the Molatc township of KiACASSAR on the sea coastand there is also interest among the neighbors. I visited in one of theirhomes last week, and had a time of prayer with them.

Thursday evenins takes me to Elsies River, and afterwards I take students tothe station, Thornton, Glshop Lavis, Guguletu and Tiervlei. Travel is noteasy for our students since they do not have their own transport, so thePeugeot has to do extra work. Fortunately I also have a motorbike which Iuse to travel to the Farmer's Co-op and for Tuesday trips to Sir Lowry's.

The brethren at Mfuleni have continued their good stewardship. They now haveover ^IjOOD.QD in their building fund, and are planning to erect a buildingfor worship this year.

Recently at Guguletu the brethren called Brother Zimmerman and me to a meetingwhere they told of a problem with one of their ministers who taught that itwas necessary to cbserve the sabbath, and was openly discrediting the work ofthe other ministers and the missionaries. For this reason they were planningto- withdraw fellowship from him. We recommended that they first talk to himpersonally, and then advise the other churches of their action.

Last week it was my privilege to give an African gentleman a lift from Mfulenito Huilsriver. I discussed with him the great debt of gratitude we owed toGod who loved us so much that He sent his own son to earth to suffer and diefor us. What a wonderful privilege God has given to us to be his witnessesand ambassadors for Christ in a world that desperately needs the knowledge ofHim who is the true and living way.

May the spirit of the Lord be with you to strengthen and guide you everymoment of every day.

Yours because of Calvary,

Iile pray that it might be so.

Brother Khota of Knysna, who was to have arranged facilities for our EasterTranskei meeting, did not arrive there in time, so we have postponed that

meeting to September when we hope to hold teaching clinics at Knysna, PortElizabeth and East London as well.

Last Lord's Day 3 carloads from Cape Town, 1 from Hermanus, 1 from IJorcsstsrand 1 from Bonnlsvgle travelled about 3 hours north to McGregaor fcr aPreaching Rally. I preached on THE LIGHT OF THE iJORLD, while others on the

Locking towards our furlough we would like to start a Travel Fund, and request special offerings over and above your regular giving to be sent toour Forwarding Agent marked —• "TRAVEL FUND." LJe have not yet set a definitedate fcr our furlough, but will keep you posted on details.

The brethren at Mfuleni have not yet obtained a Building Permit, but havebeen granted the use of a hostel as a hall since their old "shanty" hasbeen torn down. Guguletu has also applied for a building, but are planningto put up a temporary structure in the meantime.

The fcrces of Anti-christ and evil are on the upsurge, and nowhere more sotoday than in Southern Africa. The day is far spent, and the night draws

on. The King/s business requires haste. We must do the works of Him whosent us while it is s^ill day- Satan knows that his time is short., Christhas given him a mortal wound, and he is Isahirg out in a fierce andterrifying struggle —- but it is a death struggle. Christian rejoice.Your redemption is drawing near.

Yours in the mighty name of Jesus,

Dear Brethren:

lile greet you in the precious name of our Lord, and rejoice in your continuedsharing uith us in His labors here in South Africa. It has been reportedthat the value of the dollar in exchange for South African Rands is going tofall drastically in November, so it would be to our benefit if you couldsend as much contributions before that time as possible so that we can exchangethem at the current rate. This can result in a critical situation for allmissionaries in South Africa, so we urge you to make it a matter of concernand prayer. UJe would even suggest that you borrow a lump sum from the bank, and send it to us now, repaying them the amount of your monthly contribution, rather than to send it to us after the exchange rate has dropped by 50% or so.

Last month it was my privilege to travel with several of our Black and Molatobrethren about 300 miles east to George where we brought a series of messageson THE NEli) LIFc IN CHRIST. What a joy to see 2 come forward to rededicatetheir lives to the Lord Jesus Christi

Our Sunday morning services at Mfuleni are followed by a time of challengeand invitation outdoors to the people of the community. Several have alreadyresponded and the work is growing. Lde are now attempting to hire theCommunity Hall for our services. Please pray that God shall grant success.

At Sir Lowry's Pass Brother Albert Hodwana was attacked with an axe. He 'avoided the blow, but did not retaliate, so that the-farm people marveledand took knowledge of the fact that he is a Christian.

lile have concluded a series of Sunday evening messages at Macassar on "WHO ISJESUS CHRIST?" and are now in a new aeries on the book of Revelation, iderecently moved to an apartment in Henridge Park which is closer to the schoolsand the brethren from Macassar held a service there. Brother DAWIO JANTJIESbrought a message on "THE UINE AND THE BRANCHES."

On July B Brother ZIMMERMAN and I travelled 500 miles east to P.E. for theOrdination Service af Brother Leve. He went by plane and I went by motorbike. The bike (Honda LDQ Twin) went well and didn*t use a drop of oil. There werewedding services on Saturday, followed by the Drdination and dedication ofthe Mission House Sunday morning. In the evening I preached at the Molntotownship of Gelvsndale. I also had the joy of saying "Hello" to Hslly-Sue,our second grand-child, born to Alondra and David, cn Monday the bike tookme west through the bsautiful Garden Route, down into the caverns of the Blou-krans pass with its damp forests and wild baboons, past Plettanberg Bay, thrithe "Garden of Eden" and down to the Knysna lagoon beriEath the stars in thecool night air. At the Bcntu township above Knoetae beach it was irn. privile'"''jto bring a lesson on "CHRISTIAN UNITY" to the brethren there.

Since Brother Leve's ordination we received word that the Lord has wonderfullyopened doors for him to work in both the Transkei and Ciskei. He also wrltn'jthat Brother Mbengo is now a leader of the"Community Council at Uitenhagewhich has greatly helped the church work there. Praise the Lord. Othor•rdlne.tion services planned are for Brothers Labatala, Dyakumene and Ntofai avGraaff Reinet, Upington and Mfuleni.

A1 and I preached at a funeral service recently at bJorcester with over 6GQ irattendance. Ue spoke on the Hope of the Resurrection and the Certainty ofDeath, and challenged the people to repent. At the supper afterwards theypassed around a can of "MICHAU" a thick drink made of fermented corn. YUKKi

Ule are now into our 3rd term of classes with lessons on CHURCH LEADERSHIP,MAJOR PROPHETS, and ROMANS. Lord willing I shall be travelling north toLaingsburg this week-end with Brothers Jantjies, Guga. Ntobi and Lufele —(not on the motorbike).

Yours in the Master's name,

This uill alsoenable us to to get the higher exchange rate en the U.S. dollar before theSouth African exchange rate goes down in November. bJe uiould therefore urgeyou to do all that is possible to send your travel funds in nou.

It is most encouraging to me to see houj our brethren are groui'c ii" t'"'.? Lord.Neus from Port Elizabeth is that Brother Leve has set up an evansexis•ic iecn)uhich is travelling to the different areas and holding REl/I'iAL MElTI'juS- liiopraise the Lord for this. Here in Cape Toun our brethren at Mncassa.c haveformed themselves into a teaching and preaching team, and are going —MANY TIMES CN THEIR Dm (Praise God) — to teach and admonish the brethrenin Laingsburg, Worcester, McGrgor, Ashton and Bonnievale.

At Ashtpn recently there uere 5 speakers on the theme: "THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL"At Laingsburg they held an all-night service uith four of them bringing lessonson ROMANS Chapters 1 - 7 at the Floriskraal Dam. Timothy accompanied me onSunday for the morning uorship. At Worcester they encouraged and admonishedthe brethren uho are weak in the faith, uhils at McGregor and Bonnievale theyuent up on A Saturday to visit and encourage the folk before our arrival onSunday- The result has been additions to the church and the strengthening ofthe disciples.

Last Lord's day morning I brought a leadership lesson at Guguletu on "GOD'SMAN IN THE STUDY," and the evening message at Macassar uas on REl/ELATIDN 4.Last Thursday at Elsies River I brought the final lesson on "THE MAJOR PROPHETS"and yesterday evening the Honda took me to Sir Loury^s Pass for a lesson onCHRISTIAN DISCIPLINE.

As uell as the classes themselves ue have a time of questions and discussionafteruards uhich often prove more reuarding and fruitful than the lesson. Intwo ueeks time. Lord uilling, ue begin our neu term uith lessons on THE MINORPROPHETS and I and II CORINTHIANS.

The church in Hermanua has hsBn having problems recently uith a brother uhc..'is causing-Strife anddlvislon. We-^arnestly ask-for—your prayers in helpi-^.- -llthis congregation to come to the true spirit of unity in Christ. In a world/[so filled uith strife the Spirit of God alone can bring peace and unity. We\ \are one family in Christ — brothers and slaters uho belong together in the

Lord. This is such a precious heritagei

UlB hope and trust in the Lord to see many of you soon... If sufficient fundsare not available for the whole family to come it may be necessary for me tocome alone. Pray uith us that God's uill shall be done in this matter also.

..Dur_car._is now 5 years old, and needing repairs or replacement. There isalso a need for increased" support as I continue work at the Farmer's Co-op;and yet ue ere persuaded that the Lord uho has richly blessed us thus farwith your faithful help shall lead us into the futurij tc-?. May God richlybless each of you.

Dear Brethren in Christ:

It 1s a brisk but bright day In Minnesota, and It is a joy to greet you duringmy brief furlough of 6 weeks in the USA. My warm and sincere thanks goes to so manyof you who are being so kind to me, and have assured me of your prayers &support.

I am sorry that Nancy and Timothy were not able to come due to lack of funds. SandraJo came with me, and is now staying with Howard and Sandy Ganong (Nancy's sister) inRochester, Minn, to finish High School and go on to Minnesota Bible College, Nancyrecently broke her wrist, and was treated at the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town.We do ask your prayers for her.

1 was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1935, and cameto the States in 1953 to studyat Minnesota Bible College, There I met and married Nancy Woodford of Eau Claire, Wis.In 1960 we began our mission work in Cape Town and Pretoria, SOUTH AFRICA. I then tookgraduate studies at Lincoln and served the Tinley Park Church near Chicago, In 1966 webegan our ministry to PORT ELIZABETH, SOUTH AFRICA, This consisted of training blackand Coloured men for the ministry of Christ, I had teaching and discussion sessionsduring the week, and took them out with me on week-ends for evangelistic work.

In 1969 we returned to the States due to Timothy's illness, and I ministered to theNew Brighton church near St. Paul, Minn. Letters from our African minister in PORTELIZABETH told of 5 new congregations established and about 12 more men recruited fortl\e ministry in need of training. So in 1972 we returned to Port Elizabeth for a newterm of service. Then in 1977 a new venture began. Moving to CAPE TOWN we launched a3 year training program at the CAPE BIBLE SEMINARY with A1 Zimmerman and Jim Solomon. This program has now completed its 2nd year.

News from Port Elizabeth is that the brethren there have already started 3 new congregations since we left as well as a program of evangelism. However, Brother Leve hassuffered a stroke, and we do ask your prayers for him. In Cape Town the brethren havealready grown to the point where they are going out on their own on evangelistic meetings

It is now 7 years since my last visit to the States. In that time the cost of livinghas gone up and the dollar has gone down. We now need an additional income of $500 amonth just to break even. In addition our car is now 5 years old and has covered morethan 100,000 miles over some rough roads all along the southern coast of Africa. Weare seeking $5000 in order to replace it with a new car so that the work of teachingand evangelism in Southern Africa may continue in these critical days. We know thatwe can depend upon you, the Lord's people, to understand and assist in this work; andwe are confident that God shall richly bless you for it.

Lord willing, I shall be visiting churches in Minnesota and Wisconsin during the next2 weeks, make a brief stop in Toronto to visit my sister and mother, and return toCape Town on Dec. 24 in time for Christmas and the third year of classes at the CapeBible Seminary.

We want to thank each one of you who are praying for us and supporting our labors. Wepraise and thank God for you and your faithfulness. May His grace and blessing be withyou as we labor together until that glorious day when Christ Himself shall return.

Yours in His wonderful name,
