Thank you for your interest in helping to fundraise for the RSPCA Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Branch.

Help us celebrate our 80th birthday in style and raise much needed funds for

the animals in our care by raising at least £80 to become one of our special

‘Birthday Buddies’.

In this pack you will find a selection of fundraising ideas as well as tips and

advice on how we can help you with your fundraising. We can also provide

Sponsor Forms and Collection Boxes and Tubes (ideal for collecting loose

change), which are great for an event, for the workplace or for public display.

We would be more than happy to talk through any ideas with you, and should

you want any advice over the phone or by e-mail, or to gain extra supplies,

please feel free to get in touch by contacting Steph McCawley by ringing 01246

273358 or email to [email protected].

If you are doing a sponsored event, you may also want to create your own Just

Giving Page to help raise funds. If you haven’t done this before, we would be

more than happy to help!

Post Event

Once you have completed your fundraising, please return all money raised and

any Sponsor Forms to us in person or by post to our Animal Centre at 137 Spital

Lane, Chesterfield, S41 0HL. Any cheques should be made payable to “RSPCA

Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch”. Please do not send cash in the post.

If you wish to make a direct donation, you can do so via our website

www.chesterfield-rspca.org.uk/makeadonation. Please specify that you would

like your donation to go towards our 80th birthday celebrations.

Thank you for helping the animals and best of luck with your fundraising efforts!

The RSPCA Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Branch came into existence on 7th April 1938

We are an independent, self-funding branch of the RSPCA.

We care for animals that have been rescued by RSPCA Inspectors from abuse, neglect or abandonment as well as sick and injured stray animals. We also take in pets that owners can sadly no longer keep for reasons such as financial hardship, ill health and eviction.

Our Chesterfield Animal Centre is home to 45 dogs, 24 cats and various other small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters.

We have up to 135 animals in our care at any one time.

We care for, rehabilitate and rehome up to 1000 animals per year.

Its costs over £430,000 per year to keep the doors of the Animal Centre open. That’s £1200 per day!

Our animal welfare work is dependant on fundraising, adoptions, legacies and donations.

Volunteers and the help of our supporters is crucial to keep the Animal Centre running.

16 Fundraising Advice for

This is some useful advice to help ensure your fundraising goes smoothly.

We are very grateful that you have chosen to fundraise in aid of the RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch ‘80 for 80’ Challenge as we could not carry on our vital work without your support. The tips below are intended to help you carry out your fundraising; please read through them before you start to fundraise.

1. You have chosen to fundraise for the RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch, we are a separate charity from the National RSPCA. You should display the registered charity number of the charity you are fundraising for, our

registered charity number is 226142.

2. As an independent supporter (as opposed to an employee or paid fundraiser for the RSPCA) please note that you should refer to your fundraising as being ‘in aid of’ (and not ‘on behalf of’) the RSPCA. This shows that you are not a representative of the charity.

3. You are responsible for ensuring that all donations and sponsorship money from your event is paid to the RSPCA . Any cheques should be made payable to ‘RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch.’ You must inform potential donors if any amount or percentage of the funds you raise will not be paid to the charity.

4. You may need to carry out a health & safety risk assessment for your event and to ensure that all participants are fully briefed and adequately supervised. Depending on the nature of your event, you may need insurance to cover your liabilities.

5. You need to be aware that if you do something that threatens or damages the name or reputation of the RSPCA we would have to ask you to stop fundraising.

6. You may need a licence for your activity or event e.g. a licence from the local authority to collect funds on the

street, in a public place or by going from house to house; a licence under the Gambling Act for a raffle or lottery; or a licence for the sale of alcohol/entertainment.

7. If you are collecting personal information from donors, remember that there may be requirements under the Data Protection Act 1998 relating to how you deal with that information.

8. Please encourage eligible donors/sponsors to make gift aid declarations. This will make the most of your fundraising efforts by enabling us to recover basic rate tax on their donations.

9. You need to make sure you only use fundraising materials that you have a right to copy and use.

10. We would love to receive photographs of your event – if you wish to share these with us, please email them to [email protected] and we will use them to promote the ‘80 for 80’ challenge.

11. If you are under 18, your parent/guardian would need to take responsibility for your fundraising activities. Please show them this guidance and make sure they are happy about what you have chosen to do.

12. We want to raise money to be used for our charity’s general charitable aims including helping care and rehabilitating our animals in need.

13. To qualify as a ‘Birthday Buddy’ we must have your fundraising proceeds returned to us by no later than the 14th May 2018.

14. If you have any queries, please contact us at [email protected] or by telephone: 01246 273358
