Thank you for your interest in helping to fundraise for the RSPCA Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Branch.
Help us celebrate our 80th birthday in style and raise much needed funds for
the animals in our care by raising at least £80 to become one of our special
‘Birthday Buddies’.
In this pack you will find a selection of fundraising ideas as well as tips and
advice on how we can help you with your fundraising. We can also provide
Sponsor Forms and Collection Boxes and Tubes (ideal for collecting loose
change), which are great for an event, for the workplace or for public display.
We would be more than happy to talk through any ideas with you, and should
you want any advice over the phone or by e-mail, or to gain extra supplies,
please feel free to get in touch by contacting Steph McCawley by ringing 01246
273358 or email to [email protected].
If you are doing a sponsored event, you may also want to create your own Just
Giving Page to help raise funds. If you haven’t done this before, we would be
more than happy to help!
Post Event
Once you have completed your fundraising, please return all money raised and
any Sponsor Forms to us in person or by post to our Animal Centre at 137 Spital
Lane, Chesterfield, S41 0HL. Any cheques should be made payable to “RSPCA
Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch”. Please do not send cash in the post.
If you wish to make a direct donation, you can do so via our website
www.chesterfield-rspca.org.uk/makeadonation. Please specify that you would
like your donation to go towards our 80th birthday celebrations.

The RSPCA Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Branch came into existence on 7th April 1938
We are an independent, self-funding branch of the RSPCA.
We care for animals that have been rescued by RSPCA Inspectors from abuse, neglect or abandonment as well as sick and injured stray animals. We also take in pets that owners can sadly no longer keep for reasons such as financial hardship, ill health and eviction.
Our Chesterfield Animal Centre is home to 45 dogs, 24 cats and various other small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters.
We have up to 135 animals in our care at any one time.
We care for, rehabilitate and rehome up to 1000 animals per year.
Its costs over £430,000 per year to keep the doors of the Animal Centre open. That’s £1200 per day!
Our animal welfare work is dependant on fundraising, adoptions, legacies and donations.
Volunteers and the help of our supporters is crucial to keep the Animal Centre running.

Fundraising suggestions Here are some fun fundraising ideas to get you started, but we are sure you will be able to think of many more…
See how quickly you can fill one of our Collection Tubes with loose
change - tubes are available, free of
charge, from our Animal Centre on
Spital Lane or our Chesterfield
Charity Shop. Alternatively, could
you take one of our Collection Tins
for your home or work? Ask your
friends or colleagues to help.
Could you organise a sponsored
activity? A sponsored walk, swim
or run? Could you and your
friends walk the equivalent of
Land’s End to John O’Groats or 10
walks covering 8 miles. Is there a
personal challenge you would
like to achieve, such as an abseil
or skydive?
9
Are you taking part in an event such as a local marathon or triathlon in
April? Could you raise sponsorship
for the Chesterfield Animal Centre
in this way?
How about holding a cake and biscuit
sale at school or work? Unleash your
inner Mary Berry!! A great way to raise
funds, plus lovely, tasty treats to enjoy!
Does the company you work for have a Corporate Social Responsibility
scheme? Could you nominate
RSPCA Chesterfield and North
Derbyshire Branch as your Charity of
the Year?
How about running a competition? For example, you could
offer squares with 80 different names for a ‘Name a Bear’ at £1 a
go and the prize for the winning square is a cuddly toy bear.
10
Does your company offer a ‘matched funds’ scheme as part of their Cor-
porate Social Responsibility? If so,
this could help you to double your
donation to the Chesterfield Animal
Centre.
Could you organise a ‘trail of coins’?
Everyone could bring in their loose
change and try to build a trail of coins
around the office…..you could take
photographs of your progress. This is
a really fun way to raise money!
Maybe you could hold a raffle or tom-bola at your workplace, social club, or
college? Offering prizes such as
chocolate, toiletries etc.
How about a pub-games night or quiz? Or maybe an aerobics
or Zumba session if you have someone willing to lead this
safely?
11
If you belong to a sports club or organised group, could you organise a tournament or
competition? Golf, football, netball or a
badminton tournament? Could you turn this
into a fundraising event? Zumba-thon?
Sing-athon? Knit-athon? Or could you come up
with a 80 second challenge eg. who can score
the most goals?
Could you organise a Treasure Hunt?
Maybe set a series of challenges for
teams to complete, or a list of bizarre/
unlikely items to find in a set period of
time, or who can find 80 items on a list
in the fastest time.
Could you organise a silent auction or an auction of promises?
For example, could you and your friends auction off a service
each, such as a music lesson, ironing for a day, a week’s dog
walking…….?
Do you and your friends like cooking? Could you hold a
‘Come Dine With Me’ style evening at home asking each guest
to make a donation?
12
How about a non uniform day at work or
school? You could have an animal themed
day where everyone dresses in their animal
onesies, wears animal ears or even has
their face painted.
Could you hold a concert or a talent
show for family and friends? Donate
all proceeds to the RSPCA Chesterfield
and North Derbyshire Branch
Are you interested in selling RSPCA merchandise at work, school or college?
We can arrange to provide you with
merchandise to sell at your office or
canteen, such as pin badges, keyrings,
trolley tokens, pencils and so much more.
Would you like to organise an Arts
and Crafts sale? Do you or anyone
you know love making gifts and would
like to sell them to friends or family?
13
Would you be able to hold a school disco or a animal themed evening?
Animal themed music could be played
or it could be an 80’s party or 1930’s
themed evening.
Could you organise a coffee morning in your local community or
at work? Get everyone you know to
come and have a coffee and a slice
How about a ‘Guess the baby’
competition? You could hold this
with colleagues at work or teachers at
school. They provide the baby photo
and everyone pays £1 to guess.
14
Could you ask your boss to raffle off one day of annual leave to
your colleagues? This is a great
way to get everyone involved, who
doesn't want an extra days holiday!
If you can incorporate ‘80’ into the theme, that would be great but
whatever you decide to do we are sure it will be fantastic! We
would love to hear from you and see your photos. Most
importantly we hope you have fun and enjoy your fundraising
activity.
Thank you and good luck!

16 Fundraising Advice for
This is some useful advice to help ensure your fundraising goes smoothly.
We are very grateful that you have chosen to fundraise in aid of the RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch ‘80 for 80’ Challenge as we could not carry on our vital work without your support. The tips below are intended to help you carry out your fundraising; please read through them before you start to fundraise.
1. You have chosen to fundraise for the RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch, we are a separate charity from the National RSPCA. You should display the registered charity number of the charity you are fundraising for, our
registered charity number is 226142.
2. As an independent supporter (as opposed to an employee or paid fundraiser for the RSPCA) please note that you should refer to your fundraising as being ‘in aid of’ (and not ‘on behalf of’) the RSPCA. This shows that you are not a representative of the charity.
3. You are responsible for ensuring that all donations and sponsorship money from your event is paid to the RSPCA . Any cheques should be made payable to ‘RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch.’ You must inform potential donors if any amount or percentage of the funds you raise will not be paid to the charity.
4. You may need to carry out a health & safety risk assessment for your event and to ensure that all participants are fully briefed and adequately supervised. Depending on the nature of your event, you may need insurance to cover your liabilities.
5. You need to be aware that if you do something that threatens or damages the name or reputation of the RSPCA we would have to ask you to stop fundraising.
6. You may need a licence for your activity or event e.g. a licence from the local authority to collect funds on the
street, in a public place or by going from house to house; a licence under the Gambling Act for a raffle or lottery; or a licence for the sale of alcohol/entertainment.
7. If you are collecting personal information from donors, remember that there may be requirements under the Data Protection Act 1998 relating to how you deal with that information.
8. Please encourage eligible donors/sponsors to make gift aid declarations. This will make the most of your fundraising efforts by enabling us to recover basic rate tax on their donations.
9. You need to make sure you only use fundraising materials that you have a right to copy and use.
10. We would love to receive photographs of your event – if you wish to share these with us, please email them to [email protected] and we will use them to promote the ‘80 for 80’ challenge.
11. If you are under 18, your parent/guardian would need to take responsibility for your fundraising activities. Please show them this guidance and make sure they are happy about what you have chosen to do.
12. We want to raise money to be used for our charity’s general charitable aims including helping care and rehabilitating our animals in need.
13. To qualify as a ‘Birthday Buddy’ we must have your fundraising proceeds returned to us by no later than the 14th May 2018.
14. If you have any queries, please contact us at [email protected] or by telephone: 01246 273358
