Annual ReportDecember 1, 2003 - November 30, 2004

The Champaign County Public Health Department wasformed by a referendum of county voters in 1996. Thegoverning body, the County Board of Health, determinesthe programs and services it supports.

The Chair of the Champaign County Board appoints theCounty Board of Health, with County Board approval. Themembers serve without compensation.

The county health department funds, supports anddirects the activities of the Central Illinois DentalEducation and Services Program, which serves the oralhealth needs of children living in Champaign County out-side Champaign-Urbana.

All other services are provided via a contractual relation-ship with the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District.Through this relationship all residents of ChampaignCounty have access to programs and services identifiedas health priorities in the community.

Central Illinois Dental Education and Services serves the oral health needs of underserved anduninsured children in Champaign County who live outside Champaign-Urbana.

Environmental Health inspects food and drink establishments;reviews kitchen plans for new facilities; enforces environmental laws;issues permits for private water supplies and private sewage systems;conducts lead investigations; and provides food-handling classes.
