gAALaxyWhat is gAALaxy?
► International project
► Project‘s objective:
► Support older adults in staying autonomous and socially active in their
familiar environment
► Introducing them to AAL-technologies while using an ambient and
activating approach
► Successful and rapid commercialization of AAL products and services
Driver for age-appropriate holistic home and personal assistance
► Merging proprietary systems and stand-alone solutions into a
collaborative technology and service platform characterized by
disclosed interfaces and internet-capable components

► Project start: May 2016
► Expected project end: October 2018
► Funded by: AAL-Programme
► The AAL Research and Development Programme is a European Joint
Programme that supports applied research with regard to active and
assisted living
► Their goal: Increasing the quality of life of elderly people with the help of
innovative technologies
► Project goal: Living actively and independently at home – Support
more older adults to live longer in their homes with the contribution
of ICT based solutions
► Project is divided in 5 work packages

► 74 households participated
► West-AAL = currently largest AAL test region
► 6 different end-user organisations
► Target: testing and evaluating individual bundled solutions
► 90 identified AAL relevant solutions
e.g. safety at home, personal safety, social care etc.
► Smart-HoSe-Packages: individual products based on the needs in
daily life and care setting

► WP1: Requirements, Solution Design and Concept
► Define an AAL solution bundle with a smart home system
► Identify unfulfilled demand along the different pilots
► Lead: CVG
► WP 2: Solution Development and Iterative Adaptions
► Develop the conceptualized gAALaxy solution bundle
► Set up test labs in each region where end-users can pre-test parts
of the gAALaxy bundle
► Lead: UIBK
► WP 3: Solution Testing, Implementation and Piloting
► International field tests in real world environments – in the housing
of primary end-users
► Pilot applications should be deployed to every participating country

► Develop feasible business model and an initial business plan

► Guarantee a timely project conclusion while keeping cost under

among the consortium
► Prepare management reports and compliance reports
► Project management team will assure cooperation between all
participating parties as well as the funding agency (AAL) and
national contact persons (NCP)
