Rachel is 3 years old. She is the only survivor of anautomobile accident that took the lives of her grandfather, older brother, and baby sister. Months after the accident, her mother reports that Rachel cries and tantrums everytime they stop to purchase gasoline for their vehicle. HeadStart teachers report that Rachel becomes agitated andruns around the classroom as soon as they begin to putcots out for nap time. If they don't block the door, Rachel

ns out of the center. If teachers try to contain Rachel so.nat she is safe, she cries, hits, and bites them. Teachersfear for Rachel's safety and their own. Exhausted andworried, they recommended a shorter day at Head Start. IfMom leaves work before 5 p.m. to pick up Rachel, she willlose her job.
