    MISSION

Gallim Dance is a contemporary dance company dedicated to

creating and performing innovative work by Andrea Miller, nurturing

the careers of young artists and stimulating the imagination of a

diverse international audience. Andreas work weaves together

technical virtuosity, physical exhaustion, intimate expressions of

the self and an element of the theatrical.

    TO ACHIEVE OUR MISSION:

Gallim creates an environment that fosters experimentation as

well as personal and artistic risk-taking.

Andrea immerses herself in the life of her dancers and young

artists through workshops, classes and personal mentorship.

Gallim Dance counts on an administration that is creative,

dependable and quick to respond to the needs of the

moment while looking ahead to the future.

CREATIVE RESIDENCIES In April 2010, Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival awarded Gallim Dance a Creative Development Residency - two weeks of unobstructed creative time in the Doris Duke Theater.

TEACHING RESIDENCIES This year the company traveled to SUNY Potsdam for a week-long teaching residency and later, Skidmore College for a one-month teaching and creative residency where they developed new material for Wonderland. Andrea continues to be a sought-after teacher at Peridance Capezio Center and Steps on Broadway, and is a cofounder of the Movement Invention Program, which is currently in its second year.

FUTURE TEACHING PLANSIn 2011, Gallim will take a new step and send our Company Members as representatives of the Gallim aesthetic and movement repertoire, while giving them their own individual voice and initiative in the classroom. Teaching opportunities shared throughout the company will include:

DancewaveCaroline Fermin will teach Gallim repertory over a 5-month period, to a diverse group of talented high school dance students in Brooklyn

University of UtahAndrea and Francesca will travel to Utah where they will spend 3-weeks working with students in both technique and repertoire.

Arts UmbrellaTroy Ogilvie will travel to Vancouver, Canada to work with talented youth who are able to take part-in the program free of charge or at a reduced rate through bursaries, scholarships and outreach programs.

Project LaunchFrancesca Romo will travel to California to teach two Master Classes in Gallim Repertory, and will perform a solo as part of the weekend.

Movement Invention ProjectAs a founding member of MIP, Andrea will teach students ages 19 -25 over a two-week period this summer.

For Gallim Dance, an annual extended residency has become a tradition

and a necessity. It is during these periods that the company comes together

to create, experiment with new material, push each others boundaries, and

    explore their collective potential.

In 2010, the company spent a total of one and a half months in residence

    together.

    ADMINISTRATIVEHIGHLIGHTS

STRENGTHENING OPERATIONSThe administrative focus of Gallim Dance shifted significantly in 2010 to emphasize more fluid communication, aggressive marketing, and standardized operations. To achieve these goals, we took the following actions:

ORGANIZATIONAL RESTRUCTURINGOur new organizational chart and job descriptions allow us to:

More clearly allocate tasks and responsibilities Reduce administrative clogs Accelerate our turn around response to important correspondence, tasks and requests.

In 2010, we were supported by a team of five seasonal interns and various volunteers.

WEB-BASED OPERATIONSOur online database in Google Docs and company-wide calendars are able to be updated and synched in real time. Specific calendars assist with grant planning and filing, rehearsal and studio booking, choreographer availability and administration manpower.

STANDARDIZATION OF FORMS AND PROCEDURESA Standard Operating Procedures checklist details each persons responsibilities and deadlines for new projects as they arise.

In conjunction with this list, the use of the following forms create a stable and identifiable framework to which each team member can contribute: Presenters Form -- Details all information needed for a prospective engagement TripIt -- Compiles all logistical details of tours and performances Technical Riders -- Explain all production needs of each performance Grants and Foundations Database International Festivals and Universities Database

NEW DANCER CONTRACTSSix of our most senior dancers were offered new contracts and as a result:

Guaranteed their gainful employment for at least 20 weeks over a six-month period Established a sense of forethought and stability that mirrors the administrative structure Dancers were added to payroll The company was guaranteed dancers availability for performances, rehearsals, and meetings The unique Gallim aesthetic is preserved by limiting the amount of work the dancers can do with other companies if it will not contribute to their artistic growth.

NON-PROFIT INCORPORATION AND TAX-EXEMPT STATUSGallim Dance hired the services of Robert Klugman, Esq., and with the help of CPA Scott Bercu, drafted and filed the paperwork necessary to incorporate as a non-profit entity with tax-exempt status. Our application was approved by the IRS in November 2010, establishing Gallim Dance Company Inc. tax-exempt retroactively as of July 15, 2010.
