A 2005 graduate from Worldwide College of Auctioneering, Kelly is currently a member in good standing with the National Auctioneers Association (NAA), serves as President for the Oregon Auctioneers Association (OAA), and has completed the designations of Benefit Auctioneer Specialist (BAS), Certified Estate Specialist (CES), and the national designation from the Certified Auctioneers Institute (CAI). Preschool“A Luminous Beauty”

This graphic collage celebrates the classic and beloved children’s author and illustrator, Eric Carle. It highlights the whimsical work of each Honeybee in honor of a Portland favorite, the zoo’s peacocks. It represents the culmination of their study of the five families of drawing (circles, dots, curves, zigzags,

and straight lines) blended with the study of primary colors. The Honeybees were fascinated to see their

acrylic paint creations photographed and transferred onto the computer, while given the chance to rotate,

extend, or twist them as they chose. We hope this luminous piece will bring as much joy and whimsy to your space as Eric Carle’s work has for generations!

In this word search puzzle, you will find the name of every child in the class of 2023. Can you find all of them? Can you find Catlin Gabel? Can you find

Each 1st grader started with a set of cards and shaded each letter in his or her name. The individual cards were then placed into the life-size word puzzle to create the maze of letters with over 40 names and phrases that are special to the class of 2023. This modern piece is framed and ready for your wall.

2nd Grade“Put a Bird on It”

Using paper, black ink, and plastic block, each 2nd grader beautifully crafted pattern block prints.

Working together, they made an artwork that imaginatively interprets the theme “put a bird on it,”

made famous by the show, Portlandia.

3rd Grade“Water”

The 3rd grade class has created a piece of art that evokes myriad feelings from the warmth of the wood,

to the colors of water, to the thoughtful “aqua-centric” words from the children. The piece is made of individually cut and hand painted blocks of up-cycled wood, custom framed. Think of how fabulous this will

look in your home. “When you look at the artwork, you feel relaxed. It makes you want to jump in a

tropical pool,” said one student.

4th Grade“Best of Portland”

After brainstorming about Portland, our 4th graders drew and colored simple pictures representing their favorite themes. Their designs were transferred to a

Shaker-style bench and outlined with a wood-burning tool. Using vibrant color pens, each child painted his or her designated square. The piece is sealed with two coats of polyurethane, and it measures 47” L x 14” D x 18” H. From the Cascades to the Spruce Goose, the Timbers to the Beavers, the “Best of Portland” is full

of imagination and charm.

5th Grade“Mirrored Reflection”

This 5th grade project is a retrospective of the fundamentals of art. Colorful watercolor circles frame a 2’ x 2’3” mirror. Look inside, to see how

far you have come.

6th Grade“Autumn Colors”

The 6th grade project features individual paintings created by students in Art Studio with teacher Dale

Rawls. The spectrum of autumn colors is showcased in a gorgeous composition of leaves, which were laser-etched onto a piece of clear acrylic and printed on the back side. The students added texture and dimension

by routing between the leaves and mounting a few individual pieces to the front of the acrylic. This 48” x 36” piece would look stunning hung on a wall or in

front of a window.

#2:Sunset with the Swifts

Join Lower School teachers Mimi Tang (1st), Keli Gump (4th), Mariam Higgins (4th), Peggy McDonnell (music), and Scott Bowler “Mr. Science” (science) for a special

sunset family picnic on Saturday, September 15, 2012, on the lawn at Chapman School. Watch thousands of swifts gather in the sky about an hour before sunset,

while enjoying a gourmet picnic, great company, and a presentation by “Mr. Science” about the swift

phenomenon. Then cheer as you watch the birds dive into the school chimney just after sunset.

#7:Discover Denmark: A Coastal Adventure

Enjoy Denmark like a local. This Nordic getaway offers a seven-night stay in a four-bedroom private home

that sleeps six on the island of Enø (about one hour from Copenhagen). The home is on the northernmost tip of

the island called Eagle’s Beak, right on the water with a 180-degree view of the Baltic Sea. Karrebæksminde and

#8:An Evening with Jordan Schnitzer:

Private Art Collection and Dinner Philanthropist and art collector Jordan Schnitzer offers a unique opportunity for ten people at his Dunthorpe residence. The dynamic lecturer will explain his lifelong involvement and passion for art. He has been collecting art most of his life and has accumulated a collection of more than 5,000 prints, one of the most comprehensive

collections of its kind in the country. The collection consists of a vast array of prints from renowned artists such as Andy Warhol, John Buck, Roy Lichtenstein, Red Grooms, Claes

Oldenburg, and Kara Walker. Guests will enjoy an art tour, dinner, cocktails, and dessert.

#9:Swim with Florida’s ManateesThis once-in-a-lifetime experience will give you and/or your child the opportunity to explore the unparalleled

Crystal River and King’s Bay with 6th grade science teacher, biologist, and seasoned tour guide Larry Hurst. Larry

and 12 others will travel to Florida to spend three days exploring “Nature’s Coast” by boat and swimming with

the manatees. Included are three nights at the Plantation Resort on Crystal River, one afternoon boat tour on King’s

Bay, two morning Crystal River manatee snorkel trips by pontoon boat, one afternoon Rainbow River snorkel trip by

canoe, all meals, and ground transportation in Florida.

Restrictions: Does not include airfare to Florida; participants can be adults or youth. Unaccompanied youth must be 6th grade or older (at time of trip), at least average swimmer, and self-starter; accompanied youth must be competent swimmers. Date is January 18–21, 2013.

1. Upon entry each guest will be given a bid number. To bid in the silent auction, simply write your bid number on the bid form opposite the amount you want to bid. To bid in the live auction, hold up your bid card with the number toward the auctioneer. By bidding in the live or silent auction each bidder agrees to these auction rules.

2. A bid acknowledged by the live auctioneer is a legal contract to purchase the item. In the silent auction, the bid you have written on the silent auction form, and designated by the silent auction official as the top bid, is a legal contract to purchase that silent auction item.

3. Auction items will be awarded to one purchaser only. The top bid amount for an auction item will not be split among bidders who may have agreed to pay a portion of the top bid amount. A purchaser who wishes to split the payment for an auction item must collect the individual payments from the other bidder(s).

4. All purchases are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds on items.

5. The auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid that he or she deems unacceptable.

6. We will gladly accept your payment by cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Please make your check payable to Catlin Gabel School. In October 1971 the Internal Revenue Service granted Catlin Gabel School charitable organization status. We are, thus, a 501-C-3 charitable organization, and your payments are tax deductible as a charitable contribution only to the extent provided by law.

7. Unless otherwise noted, all goods, services, or certificates must be claimed and used NO LATER THAN MARCH 3, 2013, one year after auction date.

8. Catlin Gabel School reserves the right to add or withdraw, without notice, items to or from the auction.

9. The purchaser assumes the responsibility to remove purchases from the auction premises. Purchasers may claim certificates from “Check-out” for services and tangible items not displayed. Just show your “paid” receipt and you will receive the certificate. You may be asked to show your “paid” receipt for tangible items at the door when you depart.

10. All items not removed from the auction premises this evening will be stored for you at Catlin Gabel School for up to five days (3/8/12), and you may claim your item(s) between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the auction office Tuesday, March 6. Auction office is closed Monday, March 5.

11. Reservations for trips and vacation accommodations must be mutually arranged with the donor unless otherwise noted. No refunds will be allowed on travel packages for canceled tickets and/or accommodations. Bidder is responsible for redeeming gift certificates and arranging all travel and experiences directly with the donor. Catlin Gabel will not assume any responsibility for making arrangements.

12. Travel will be provided by donors as described even if the prices increase above those stated. Because travel charges change, travel costs may decrease the values stated, but no refunds will be allowed.

13. Catlin Gabel School has attempted to describe and catalog all items correctly, but all items are offered “as is, where is.” Catlin Gabel School neither warrants nor represents, and in no event shall be responsible for, the correctness of descriptions, genuineness, authorship, provenance, or condition of the items. No statement made in this catalog or made orally at the auction or elsewhere shall be deemed such a warranty, representation, or assumption of liability. The values listed are estimates only and are not warranted for tax purposes or fair market value. Items have not been appraised unless so noted.

14. Each person issued a bid number (bidder) assumes all risks and hazards related to the auction and items obtained at the auction. Each bidder agrees to hold harmless from any liability arising there from Catlin Gabel School, its elected and appointed officials, members and employees, the auctioneer, the auction company and its agents and employees, the event organizers, sponsors, and or volunteers connected with the auction.
