JIMMY DYKES

HEAD COACHThe most successful basketball programs all have a few key elements in common.

PASSIONThey are passionate about the game. The coaches are pas-sionate about their team, the players are passionate about the opportunity to represent their university and the fans are passionate about supporting the program.

EXCITEMENTAll successful programs are filled with excitement. They are exciting to watch and to be a part of.

COMMITMENTIt takes a lot of people to make a program successful and they all have to be committed to the effort. It starts with the coaches and staff and extends to the players but the best programs in the country take it further. Everyone who impacts the program, from professors, athletic trainers, academic coordinators, administrators and fans, all have to be willing to work toward the same goal of excellence in all areas.

PERFORMANCEFinally, successful teams have to perform at a high level every day. Whether in the classroom, in the community or on the court, doing things the right way is vital to the program’s success.

The University of Arkansas made a move March 30, 2014, when they welcomed Jimmy Dykes as the eighth head coach of the Razorback women’s basketball team.

AN ARKANSAS WIN WOULD ... » Be the 10th of the season for Arkansas » Snap a two-game losing streak » Avenge an earlier loss to Mississippi State » Be the first against the Bulldogs for Arkansas head coach Jimmy Dykes

CHARLIE CREME’S BRACKETOLOGYThe Gamecocks moved to 7-0 with Sunday’s slugfest of a road victory over Missis-sippi State. After that, the conference is a cluster of teams virtually indistinguish-able by record and performance. After the Gamecocks, each of the SEC’s other 13 teams has at least two conference wins. No one has more than four. Everyone has at least two losses but no more than five. Georgia is tied for last place, yet is a mere 2½ games out of second place, and the Lady Dogs are included in this week’s pro-jected NCAA tournament field.

NOTES » Arkansas’s 4-3 start in SEC play was the best conference start since starting

the year 3-2 in 2010-11. Arkansas lost the sixth game moving to 3-3 to start SEC play that season.

√ This is just the second time in 10 seasons that Arkansas has started confer-ence play with four wins in the first six games

» Arkansas is 3-4 versus ranked teams this year » Arkansas is 2-0 versus teams ranked No. 13 in the AP poll this year (Texas A&M,

Tennessee) » Arkansas is 3-0 versus ranked teams at home this year » Arkansas is 48-77 versus teams ranked in the AP Poll No. 11-25 » The last time Arkansas defeated three ranked teams in a season was 2011-12

(Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Tennessee [not all at home]) » It is the first time since 2001-02 that Arkansas has won back-to-back games

over ranked opponents (2001-02 vs. No. 7 South Carolina, No. 8 Mississippi State)

TOUGH START TO SEC SCHEDULEArkansas faces one of the toughest starts to the SEC schedule for the second con-secutive season. Last year, the Razorbacks opened SEC play with three of its first four opponents ranked in the AP Top 15. They were one of just two programs in the Power 5 Conferences to do that.

@RAZORBACKWBB

This year, Arkansas again faces a tough start opening the season at No. 2/2 South Carolina, vs. No. 13/10 Texas A&M, at No. 7/6 Mississippi State and vs. No. 13/15 Tennessee (AP/Coaches). The Razorbacks also faced No. 5 Texas, No. 7 Ore-gon State and have Kentucky, Missouri, Georgia, Auburn and Florida who have been ranked or are receiving votes this year.

MORE ABOUT THE SCHEDULEArkansas opens SEC play facing five consecutive opponents who started conference play ranked in the AP Top-25 (Dec. 28). The Razorbacks are the only team in the SEC to open with five teams who were ranked as of Dec. 28, and they face six ranked teams in the month of January. Arkansas also faced two other league teams who are getting votes in the poll. Several other SEC teams play at least five ranked teams in January but Arkansas is the only one to start that way.

In addition to being the only team in the SEC to start with that schedule, Arkansas is the only team in the power five conferences to begin with such a tough league start. Several members of the ACC have three or four ranked conference opponents on their January schedules but none start like the Razorbacks. No one in the Big 12 faces more than two ranked conference opponents in January. No one in the Big Ten has more than three. The Pac-12 has several teams who face five ranked conference opponents in the month of January but, again, no one who starts with five consecutive ranked confer-ence teams.

SOLID NON-CONFERENCE TILT AS WELL » Arkansas’ non-conference schedule featured 13 teams » Two top-7 teams on neutral courts (#7 Oregon State

[Puerto Rico] and #5 Texas [OKC] » Three teams (OSU, Missouri State, SDSU) picked to win

their conferences » Three others picked in the top four (Lafayette, ORU, Texas) » Five teams who were in the postseason last year (SDSU,

Tulsa, Missouri State, Rutgers, Texas) » Six games at neutral or away sites

LONE WOLFFMelissa Wolff is the only senior on the 2015-16 team. Named team captain, Wolff’s leadership on and off the court will be heavily relied upon with eight newcomers to the Razorback family this year. Wolff led the team in rebounding last year with 7.8 per game and had six double doubles last year, includ-ing two in the NCAA Tournament.

As a senior, Wolff was a nominee for the WBCA, the NABC and Allstate Insurance Company’s 2016 Allstate WBCA and NABC Good Works Teams®. In its fourth year, the Allstate WBCA and NABC Good Works Teams® recognize players at all levels of college basketball who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involve-ment. From establishing nonprofits that provide youth with the necessary tools to become leaders of tomorrow, to rais-ing awareness around pertinent issues that could save lives, these student-athletes exhibit impeccable leadership skills both on and off the court.

WOLFF A SENIOR OF SIGNIFICANCERazorback Melissa Wolff was recognized recently as a Senior of Significance by the College of Education and Health Pro-fessions and the University of Arkansas. The Alumni Associa-tion has been recognizing the outstanding graduate for more than 50 years. Expansion of the awards program took place in 2014 when the committee selected 71 outstanding Seniors of Significance in honor of the University of Arkansas founding year of 1871. Razorback student-athletes represented near-ly 13 percent of the entire Seniors of Significance class this year. Hundreds of students were nominated by the faculty and staff on campus. Completed applications were then reviewed by more than 100 alumni and university employees to select the top 71. The Seniors of Significance honored represent the top 2% from the Class of 2016.
