Gas Turbines - ME-48 Discipline: Mechanical Level: Specialized Instructors: Ronald Frend This five-day course is an intensive, intermediate level program for experienced mechanical equipment engineers or facilities engineers to develop and expand their capabilities in controls, monitoring and problem analysis of gas turbines. This course focuses on defining the systems and subsystems that form the gas turbines; the potential problems with these systems and subsystems; monitoring techniques for early detection of problems; and methods to analyze the monitored variables to detect potential problems or reconstruct reasons for failures. Case studies are used throughout the course. Who should attend: Experienced mechanical or facilities engineers and senior technicians needing an understanding of operations, control, monitoring and troubleshooting gas turbines utilized in the oil and gas industry. You will learn: To understand various types and classes of gas turbines How to match gas turbines to centrifugal compressors, pumps and electrical generation equipment To understand system integrity (availability and reliability) How to evaluate gas turbines performance during startup and operation How to identify gas turbines system and auxiliary components How to define and use appropriate monitoring techniques and tools How to utilize effective operation and shutdown procedures How to analyze common gas turbines problems, such as vibration, performance degradation, system or control induced instabilities and surge How to solve instrumentation, system and control problems Understand the inter-relationships of drivers, couplings, gearboxes, and driven equipment Installation techniques, equipment failures and appropriate maintenance practices Economic considerations Topics Covered: Gas turbines in the oil and gas industry Operating principles of gas turbines Electric machinery: motors and generators Installation
