Due to complexity of setting clearances and machining we recommend you send this unitto an authorized service facility for rebuilding.

OPERATION INSPECTIONRegular inspection and maintenance may preventexpensive repairs. High vacuum or pressure operation willshorten pump’s life. Oil fog from the exhaust indicatesoverheating. Keep external surfaces clean for proper heatdissipation.

LUBRICATIONUse of correct and proper amount of oil is important.Excessive lubrication rarely does as much harm asinadequate lubrication.

Gast AD220 Oil is available in convenient quartcontainers from the factory or through Gast stockingrepresentatives. Order by part #AD220. As a substitute, ahigh detergent SAE #10 weight oil may be used. A 20weight oil should be used in high ambient locations.

mWARNING Always disconnect power sourcebefore servicing. The motor may bethermally protected and canautomatically restart when theprotector resets.

Reusing oil is not recommended.

SIPHON OILERThe jar’s oil level, oil viscosity and temperature governsthe oil feed rate. The air breather hole in the connectorfitting should not be restricted. Clean or replace wick(pipe cleaner) when dirty. One filing will last 20 to 40hours.

BEARING SEAL OILERSStop pump. Remove cap. Fill with 4 or 5 drops of oil(same as used for pump) daily. Empty muffler And/ordrain tank. Replace caps before starting pump again.

mWARNING DO NOT replace Bearing-Seal capswith grease fittings or grease anypart of the pump.

FILTER MUFFLERElements covered with dust or oil will cause loss invacuum, pressure, and overheating of the pump. Wash theelements with cleaning solvent and dry before replacing.

SERVICINGMost failures to build up pressure or vacuum are due toleaks in connecting lines, damaged filter jar threads,collapsed air lines, dirty filtering elements, or sluggishvanes in the pump. See “Cleaning” for care of the filterelements and vanes, which may stick in the rotor slots dueto lack of oil or carbonized (burnt) oil deposits. The latteris generally caused from the pump being operated aboveits recommendations and getting too hot.

CLEANINGRemove the filters and muffler to flush the pump of dirt,viscous or carbonized oil. Permit a cupful of solvent* to beslowly drawn into each chamber at intake while pump isrunning. If foreign particles cannot be removed by thismethod, an experienced mechanic may remove the endplates to clean the interior or to replace the vanes.

mCAUTION Avoid damaging the internal machinedsurfaces and paper shim gaskets.Flush unit in a well-ventilated area.Eye protection is recommended. Keepface away from exhaust port and donot flush unit with flammable solvent.Wash pump interior withrecommended solvent*.

Rebuild as dissembled, end clearance for each chamber is0.006" to 0.008"; top clearance is 0.0015". Rebuilding withexcessive clearance will cause a loss of efficiency.Insufficient clearances will cause overheating and internalpump damage.

Recommended solvent is Gast Flushing Solvent part#AH255.
