    DECLARACTION OF FORGIVENESS Children of light, because we belong to our Lord Jesus Christ, we need not fear—for he lived for us, he died for us,

    he was raised for us and prays for us. Believe the promise of your baptism: in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Amen!

    **RESPONSE TO FORGIVENESS ............................................................................................................ 679, v. 1 Let the whole creation cry, “Glory to the Lord on high.”

    Heaven and earth, awake and sing, “Praise to our almighty King.”

    Praise God, angel hosts above, ever bright and fair in love;

    sun and moon, uplift your voice; night and stars, in God rejoice!

    - Responding to the Word -

    **AFFIRMATION OF FAITH ................................................................................... from the Confession of Belhar We believe in one holy, universal Christian church, the communion of saints called from the entire

    human family. We believe that Christ’s work of reconciliation is made manifest in the church as the

    community of believers who have been reconciled with God and with one another. We believe

    that unity is, therefore, both a gift and an obligation for the church of Jesus Christ; that through the

    working on God’s Spirit it is a binding force, yet simultaneously a reality which must be earnestly

    pursued and sought: one which the people of God must continually be built up to attain.

    Music Notes by Rebecca te Velde

    Prelude: This beloved spiritual was arranged by Gordon Young (1919-1998), organist/composer/editor who enjoyed a long and multifaceted career. He wrote over 1,000 compositions. Postlude: This is an energetic setting by Matthew Corl (b. 1965) of hymn #4. The melody is somewhat camouflaged, and is sometimes ornamented, within an irregular 7/8 meter. Corl is organist and associate director of music at First United Methodist Church in Lakeland, Florida. Special Music: We thank Choral Scholar Jack Moffatt for his vocal leadership in worship today, and for his solo, an arrangement of an early American tune by John Ness Beck.
