To Donna Killingbeck: Thank You and Best Wishes!I have very mixed emotions about the following announcements. Donna Killingbeck, our attendance secretary, will be leavingGarden Gate effective this Friday. Although we are very sorry to lose her, this is a wonderful decision for her and her family.

She and her husband, Ray, will be relocating to Tennessee. Their children and grandchildren will be close by. So, while weare sad for ourselves, we are excited for Donna as she enters this new phase of her life.

Donna has been a part of our staff for over two years. In that time, she has welcomed a lot of families to Garden Gate. Formany of them, Garden Gate was their first experience with an American school. She made this first time experience apositive, supportive and enjoyable one for them. In addition, Donna quickly became an integral part of the staff. Her smileand quick wit brought a lot of people to the office, especially the children. As I have told her on multiple occasions, I havenever laughed so hard as I have working with her. She told us repeatedly that she loved her job. That was very evident in alshe did. She'll be missed, but I think all of us understand her strong desire to be with her family. I know you, our GardenGate community, join the staff in wishing Donna the best in all of her future endeavors. Best wishes, Donna!

To Vaughn Rodriguez: Welcome to Garden Gate!

This is the other part of my mixed emotions. While I am sad to see Donna leave, I am also happy to welcome VaughnRodriguez as our new attendance secretary. Vaughn has worked in the district as a substitute secretary for some time andhas subbed at Garden Gate on occasion. She has had extensive office experience and is very eager to join the staff atGarden Gate and work with our community. Some of you will remember Vaughn when you see her since she has subbedhere at Garden Gate in the past. In fact, Donna was the first one who pointed out Vaughn's strengths as a substitute secretarto me. I am delighted that she will become part of our team. Please join me in welcoming Vaughn to Garden Gate!

With Our Holiday Season, Chances Are You Will Probably

Focus on Family TraditionsTraditions that center on family or friends can be a great way to put meaning back into the holidays. Here are a couple ofideas: Talk about which family traditions your family loves the most. Then figure out how you can put more emphasis on

them. If you love the tradition of lighting the menorah, get together as a group to make your own candles. If you enjoy thefamily trip to pick out a tree, make it an all-day event in which you head to a tree farm to choose your own.

Find out what the holidays mean to others. Have your children talk to a grandparent, parent, uncle, or aunt about how

they spent the holidays growing up. Some holiday traditions that used to be strong - such as neighborhood caroling - areall but lost today. Maybe you'd like to revive some of these as a way to share some holiday spirit with your family, friends,or community.

Build some new traditions. If you don't have any family traditions, it's never too late to start. Get together aroundactivities that you all enjoy, such as cooking or ice-skating. Ask your kids what they would enjoy doing every year andmake an effort to do it. If you can't all decide on one thing, make traditions out of several, so that everyone feels like part othe festivities.

Sharing a thoughtWith Thanksgiving around the corner, it would be very appropriate to give thanks for the wonderfulcommunity we have here at Garden Gate. This school is blessed with an incredible staff, wonderful and

bright students, as well as their equally wonderful and supportive parents. Garden Gate is truly unique in so

many ways. There are many reasons why I am thankful for the opportunity to be the principal here. I thinkone of the lasting memories I will have of this school is that all of us know why we are here. We value thepurpose of our work and we have a lot of fun in doing that work including the young, the old and the in-between Gators! Happy Thanksgiving!

Parking Lot ReminderParents, please remember to not park in the Reserved parking spots that are located closest to the street. They are reserved specificallyfor the use of staff members who might get caught in traffic and need to be in their classrooms to open the doors for students when the8:00a.m. bell rings. We do not want students waiting outside for their teachers who are trying vainly to find a parking space close to theschool. We really appreciate your assistance with this matter.
