N E W S R E L E A S E FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 25, 2008 Contact: Communication and Media Relations, 678-301-6020 GCPS to host review of technology-based materials for K-8 mathematics Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) invites parents and members of the community to join the school system’s staff in a review of proposed technology-based instructional materials for mathematics in grades K-8. The technology-based instructional materials to be reviewed are intended as a supplemental instructional piece. They will be used to support the elementary and middle school levels mathematics textbooks adopted by the Gwinnett County Board of Education. Technology-based instructional materials submitted by publishers are reviewed by teachers, administrators, and parents for alignment with the school system’s Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. The technology-based instructional materials will be available in a computer lab as part of the review process. The review will be held from January 28 – February 1 at GCPS' Instructional Support Center (ISC) in Building 200 (POD lab, room 2.271). The hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The ISC is located at 437 Old Peachtree Road, NW Suwanee, 30024. To ensure that technical support is available during the review, parents and community members must make an appointment to participate by calling Sheila Manley, mathematics office program assistant, at 678-301-7037. Based on the input gathered from this review, a recommendation may be made to the Board of Education for adoption of technology-based instructional materials for mathematics in grades K-8.
