Checking for an obituary for Carole in Boca Raton gave the notification with no

details. Thankfully, the funeral home confirmed Carole and Marvin were

did an outstanding job watching over Tony…she will definitely be missed. The

Chuck entered the Navy as a NavCad in 1957 and got his Naval Aviator Wings in

1958. After Advanced training at NAS Beeville, Texas, Chuck was assigned to

NAS Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Florida where he met and married Jamie Louise

Brown (niece of Lefty Gardner an originator of the Confederate Air Force), the

love of his life. At NAS Cecil Field flying with VU-3, a Utility Squadron, he found

himself ferrying many different types of Navy aircraft across the United

States. Often a check out consisted of being handed an Navy Ops Manual for an

aircraft he had never flown before. Later he moved to VA34 flying the A4D

Skyhawks aboard the USS Enterprise during the Cuban Missile crisis. He left the

Navy in the summer of 1964 and in October 1964 started Class with American

Airlines on the DC6/DC7 as an F/O--F/E. His first base was Nashville (BNA),

where he went from F/E to F/O within a couple of months on the DC6/7. In

February 1966 he transitioned to the L-188 Lockheed Electra as F/O and in 1967

upgraded to Captain on the L-188.

American Airlines provided the B-727 that moved Dr. Martin Luther Kings body

from Memphis after he was killed and Chuck was the Captain for the flight. He

became the APA union representative in grievances arbitrating for pilots with

the Chief Pilots Office at DFW. He retired from AA in September 1995 and

shortly after became Chief pilot for JaGee Corporation, a Ft. Worth grain

company with holdings in Nebraska, Oklahoma and Kansas, flying the Cessna

421, Learjet and Westwind for 10 years.

2014. In his email Jim said, “My father-in-law spoke fondly of the Grey Eagles

My father was a navy pilot in WW 2. He flew in North Africa at the end

of the war in Europe, patrolling the Straits of Gibraltar in PBYs. He was then sent

to central California with a bunch of Navy pilots to get ready for the invasion of

Japan. He was qualified in and had a lot on time in the Lockheed Ventura. He

flew in the Naval Reserves after the war and was hired by American in 1952. He

flew out of the NYC airports until 1970, when he transferred to SFO. He flew

Convairs, DC-6s and DC-7s, the Electra, the Convair 990, the BAC 1-11, the 707

and the DC-10. He retired at 60 in 1982. After retirement, he and my mother

cruised in a sailboat he built. He also had a Cessna 185 and flew it all over

the western US and Alaska. He spotted fish in Bristol Bay, AK when he was 75.

He had great stories. In 1972, he landed a 707 at SFO that had an

unlocked main gear. As I recall, the FE looked at it through the prism block and

confirmed that it was down but not locked. They landed in a severe crab and

dragged it into lock, blowing the tires. It was written up in the local papers. I am

probably one of the few people who logged right seat time in a Convair 340 at

seven years old.

We learned from Michael Davis of his father’s death on March 14, 2019, Grey

Eagle #2313, William J. “Bill” Davis. His wife, Sandra, preceded him in death in

2000. I was unable to find a link to an obituary, however Michael forwarded the

following:

“Major General William John Davis passed away on March 14,

2019, at the age of eighty-five years old while being hospitalized not far

from his farm in Wadsworth, Illinois. William Davis was a lifelong

Chicagoan, born August 4, 1933. He was a native of the north side, raised

a family in the western suburb of St. Charles, and retired to his farm in

Wadsworth, just north of Gurnee. After graduating high school, he joined

the U.S. Air Force in 1953, and began his flying career as a navigator for

reconnaissance missions. He then returned to Chicago, joined the

reserves, and attended school at Northwestern University where he

graduated in 1959 with a degree in Political Science. After briefly

attending law school at the University of Miami, he decided to pursue a

flying career full time and took a job with American Airlines. In 1971, he

married Sandra Marie Richter of Hopkins, Minnesota, and they started a

family raising two children, Kristen Marie and Michael William.

William Davis served 35 years with the United States military

before retiring as the Commander of the Illinois Air national Guard in

1989. After 30 years of service with American Airlines, he retired as a

Captain in 1993. He became a widow when his wife Sandra Davis died of

cancer in 2000.

He was a curious, compassionate, and scholarly individual. He

was a car and motorcycle enthusiast, a philanthropist, and a public

servant, but he’ll be remembered most as a wonderful father and a loving

husband. He is survived by his two children, Kristen and Michael.”

Dearest Friends and Family,

Most of you know our loving husband and father passed away on June 21, 2018,

after a short and shocking

bout with pancreatic cancer.

Please see the information below regarding our husband/father, Capt. David F.

Durham's, memorial service

and reception, the latter immediately following the service. We are aware that

many of you will not be

able to attend, but we thought you would like to know what we have planned to

honor him.

At the present time, we have not determined the location of David's remains. The

possibilities are Arlington Columbarium in Arlington, Virginia and Punchbowl

Crater in Honolulu, Hawaii.

We, Matt and Trev, have posted a tribute to our father on Facebook.

In addition to below, in the fall we are planning a "Celebration of Life" for our

father and our grandmother, Jeanette "Mimi" Stokes in Strongsville, Ohio, where

all our parents and grandparents, the Durhams and the Stokes, lived for many

years. Mimi passed away on April 8, 2018.

Thank you for all your support and caring during this challenging time for our

family.

I am very sorry to inform you about the passing of GE# 2563, Emp# Stanley A.

Johnson, on 07/04/2018 at the age of 79. I was informed about this by Dave

Temples through Bob Hoch. Stan succumbed after a three year battle with lung

cancer. There is no obituary as yet but I spoke to Sandy and Stan will be

cremated and his ashes brought up to their summer home at Sturgeon Bay,

WI. She is planning a memorial in a couple of months at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht

and Base Manager Captain Lloyd (Mac) McBeth, passed away Saturday, June 2.

There will be a Funeral Service Monday, June 11 at the Lima Family Santa Clara
