REASON FOR ACTION

To develop and improve upon an agency wide GED initiative, prioritizing short- and long-term strategies, that offers support, encourages, and empowers customers to attain their GED to further their career opportunities.

2

CURRENT STATE

• Four programs accommodate customers the customers within OED-Workforce Development, none of which address the short-term goal of 250 GEDs attained by December 31, 2013

• Recognizing the need to serve non-program specific customers to meet the goal, an additional process is needed to meet the short-term goal

3

TARGET STATE

4

In addition to the existing program-specific strategies, the team developed short-term and long-term strategies to address the needs of non-program specific customers.

SOLUTION APPROACH

SOLUTION APPROACH

6

If we… … then we can

Effectively outreach to customers Help customers achieve a GED to improve their quality of life

Have an amnesty day during the last two weeks of the year

Create more opportunities to get GEDs

Can engage GED graduates Provide positive support to others

Deploy an aggressive marking campaign Motivate customers who have completed at least 1 test to finish their GED

If we engage our customers during strategy development

TEAM INSIGHTS

• GED Preparation providers shared… – 40% of customers have learning disabilities

– 20% are ready to take their GED Test

• A notable number of people have taken 1 or more tests, but have not completed their GED

• GED attainment brings money to the local economy

• OED doesn’t have a integrated system to track GED attainment

• We have a lot of “Business-non-value-add”, but it’s worth reviewing
