The VPI Story
Since day one, it’s about quality, serviceand innovation
Whether you’re an architect, designer, distributor, or installer, you can depend on VPI to provide three important things:
1. Great flooring products
2. World-class service
3. Industry expertise and technical excellence
We’re known for the creation of the industry’s original static
control flooring— Conductile® and Statmate™— way back in
1949. We’re also known for precision and quality in all of our
products: flooring tile, wall base, rubber flooring, and accessories
to complete the job.
Through the years, we’ve become more than just a flooring vendor,
but a partner and consultant. Maybe that’s because we hold our
products up to levels of performance that exceed industry norms.
The same goes for our people—you’ll see it first-hand in our
service and knowledge.
Today, we continue to offer the industry’s best flooring products
and everything that goes with them: The best choices, options,
warranties, and service. From stringent testing procedures and
quality checks to incredible precision in the end product, it’s what
you expect, and what we demand.
So whether this is your first specification of VPI products
or if you’ve been counting on us for decades, one thing
remains true:
When you only want the best, we’ll be there.

Seeing Green
Just How Green Is Green? VPI Goes to the Next Level. Our up-front focus on quality means our products aredurable and tough, with a very long life cycle in theirintended applications. The result? A diminished need to extract new resources and expend energy in themanufacture of replacement products.
It’s certainly no surprise that environmental concerns havecome to the forefront of virtually every aspect of modernlife. At VPI, we remain committed to this importantdirective, and fully understand the role we play working in partnership with you.
We also understand that environmentalresponsibility is a complex subject, oftenrequiring us to consider many differentperspectives.
When manufacturers tout the benefits ofrecycling, they often overlook the impact of the recycling process: Energy isconsumed, waste is created, and additionalresources are used. Granted, this process mayuse less energy and resources than creating newproducts, but an overall negative impact on theenvironment is often the result. So while recycling istypically presented as an environmentally responsiblepractice, there’s a bigger question: Isn’t continued useof a high-quality product better than recycling?
Sustainability Is ParamountConsider a typical paper coffee cup, one that’s made ofrecycled material and is also recyclable. Unquestionably, it offers sound environmental responsibility. But isn’t aceramic mug—one that can be used repeatedly fordecades—an even better environmental choice?Preventing waste—not simply recycling waste—is the realsolution to a healthy planet. Unlike many flooring productsavailable today, our tile lasts decades, not just a few years. And that means replacement and recycling isn’t required. Instead, we offer sustainability, a solution that makes sensefrom financial and environmental perspectives. Simply, our belief is that while recycling is better than throwingsomething away, the greenest solution is using a productthat lasts and lasts.
Our Facility: Setting the Standard • We generate almost no waste for landfills (less than
2%). All product trim and rework is reused within the product, other products, or used within othermanufacturing processes.
• We don’t use heavy metals in pigments or stabilizers.• We meet all applicable guidelines of the State
of Wisconsin’s progressive environmental and refuse laws.
• We recycle water used in the manufacturing processin a closed-loop system.
• We use recycled packaging for our products, containing up to 100% recycled content.
Our Products: Sustainability for the Long Haul
• Durability and outstanding qualityprovides a long life cycle, without theneed to use new products.
• No waxing requirements means noenvironmental impact from waxing, and no damage caused by corrosivestripping.
• Most of our adhesives have zero to very low emissions of Volatile OrganicCompounds (VOCs). (Please refer toour website for specific details.)
Our Standards: More than Just a PromiseYear after year, we maintain our commitment to strict eco-compatible manufacturing, packaging andrecycling programs. Unlike others, we’ve made sure our compounds contain no asbestos, cadmium, CFCs, lead or formaldehyde. Simply, at VPI, giving customers eco-friendly options is our way of doing business.
Our Commitment to Air Quality: FloorScoreIn an effort to maintain indoor air quality, the FloorScoreprogram tests and certifies flooring products for compliancewith indoor air quality emission requirements adopted in California. Virtually every flooring substrate has beentested, and those bearing the FloorScore seal have beenindependently certified as compliant. We’re proud to featurethe FloorScore seal of approval on many of our products—it helps everyone breathe a little easier.
How a quality product that’s built to last is ultimately the best environmental choice

As the first-ever manufacturer of static control flooring, we bringexperience and insight no one else can match. Developed decadesago and in continual refinement, Conductile® and Statmate™ are stillthe premier static flooring solutions on the market. In fact, VPIStatic Control Tile installed over 60 years ago still performs to thesame specifications as the day it was installed, retaining itsconductive and dissipative properties indefinitely. For applicationsthat require electrostatic discharge protection and/or low outgassing(like electronics assembly, health care, and clean rooms), VPI StaticControl Flooring is a perfect choice.
FeaturesComplianceVPI tiles meet or exceed all federal, ASTM and ESDAssociation specifications for electrical resistance. Afterinstallation, a Certificate of ESD Compliance can alsobe issued for complete peace of mind in the mostdemanding and critical applications.
Lifetime “forever” electrical warrantyOur ESD tiles are guaranteed to work as long as the tileis installed!
75-year wear warrantyVPI tiles are warranted for 75 years regarding failuredue to workmanship or materials. This is the longestwarranty in the industry for any resilient floor.
Top-quality materialsVPI ESD control tiles are made only from certifiedhigh-quality materials to assure a lifetime of reliableand consistent technical performance.
Superior physical resistanceOur ESD tiles can endure loads of up to 2,500 psioffering unmatched durability. They offer a lifetime ofabrasive resistance to chipping and marring, unlike otherproducts with lower vinyl content.
Extreme resistance to many chemicalsIncluding betadine, acids, strong alkalis, alcohols, aliphaticsolvents and a variety of organic and synthetic fats.
Eco-consciousnessVPI tiles are the greenest resilient tiles on the markettoday. Sustainable and earth friendly, VPI tiles createless carbon foot printing through the product lifecycle
than many other more expensive, lower quality “greenwash” products.
Ease of installation and a beautiful appearanceConforming to subfloor irregularities without crackingor breaking, our “Micro Squared” highly flexible tilesare extremely easy to install. And after installation, theappearance simply blossoms. In fact, many customerschoose our tiles when they don’t need static control—just a great-looking floor that lasts a lifetime andrequires very little maintenance.
Variety of installation choices:12 x 12 x 1⁄8
24 x 24 x 1⁄8
36 x 36 x 1⁄8
Pre-grooving available (24’s and 36’s only)Access flooring tiles available
Adhesive is includedAll orders include appropriate amounts of VPI #150Conductive Epoxy Adhesive or VPI #160 ConductiveAcrylic Adhesive.
No copper strip grid requiredThe VPI system only requires a single two-foot copperstrip every 2,000 square feet to ensure completegrounding. Other ESD systems require an extensivegrid system to be installed before tile installation.
No wax requirementsUnlike other flooring tiles, our static control tiles do not require wax or glaze to maintain their electricalproperties. No wax is also great for the environment.

With the same physical and installation properties, there are key differences between VPI Conductile® and Statmate™ ESD tiles:
Static Control Flooring
Conductive Tile• 25,000 to 1,000,000 ohms resistance• Fastest static decay—up to 20 times
faster than static dissipative tiles• For use with highly sensitive
equipment and critical applications• Suited for printed circuit and chip
manufacturing• 2,500 psi load rating
Static Dissipative Tile• 1,000,000 to 100,000,000 ohms
resistance• Slower static decay—up to 20 times
slower than conductive tiles• Not for use with highly sensitive
equipment and critical applications• Not suited for uses with exposed
circuits or chips• 2,500 psi load rating
Conductile® vs. Statmate™: Which Is the Right Tile for You?
To understand the differences and the choices between staticdissipative and conductive tiles, it’s important to understandthe history of static control flooring.
Originally, VPI invented “no-wax” static control tile back inthe late 1940s, primarily as a spark arresting floor. Althoughthe newly invented floor material reduced static electricity, the real focus was on preventing sparking in hospitaloperating rooms.
Equally important, in the 1950’s and even into the 1960’s,many buildings were not properly grounded. To provideprotection against shock hazards, we evolved our staticcontrol tile into no-wax “static dissipative” tile, branded as STATMATE™. This new material quickly became astandard in many facilities and is frequently used today insome high-voltage applications and/or where inadequategrounding could be a concern.
Then a new challenge emerged. As high-tech electronicsmanufacturing became common, smaller and faster systems were more susceptible to damage caused by static electricity—and thus required much greater protection. For the first time, static levels imperceptible to humans couldactually cause significant problems for sensitive electronics. The hallmark “shock” we traditionally felt was far and abovethe levels that would damage and disrupt electronicsmanufacturing.
Continuing its mission as an industry leader, VPI addressedthis issue by inventing no-wax conductive tiles, branded asCONDUCTILE®. With up to 20 times greater protectionthan all other waxed static dissipative tile, impregnated tilesor poured static dissipative options, CONDUCTILE® set thestandard in the industry, and continues to do so today.
So which one to choose? Static dissipative tiles arerecommended where electronic equipment is operated—for example, in control rooms or computer server rooms.Alternatively, conductive flooring is recommended for areaswhere electronic components (such as circuit boards) areeither serviced or manufactured.
While there are some limited exceptions, ESD flooringexperts increasingly support the viewpoint that conductiveflooring can and should be used everywhere.
In today’s world, highly sensitive components need moreprotection, electronic equipment is much better insulated and grounded than it was in the past, and a flooringinvestment should be preserved well into the future. Therefore, CONDUCTILE® is the optimal solution in most applications.

Five Reasons to Choose the Best Commercial Tile in the Industry.1. Toughness Beyond Compare, and a Warranty to MatchHow good is PRT? While some flooring products offer five or even ten-year warranties, our PRT line is warranted for 75years. That means peace of mind, even in demanding high-traffic applications like schools, retail environments, hospitals, airports, office buildings and more.
2. Low Maintenance Means You Save MoneyOur new Premium Resilient Tile (PRT) provides incredible looks, performance, durability and longevity. Very simply, thatmeans value. PRT requires less maintenance than any other floor, and because of its extended life cycle, your investment isprotected for decades.
3. Earth-Friendliness in Many Different WaysAny product with a 75-year life cycle is earth-friendly—not having to replace it is environmentally superior to severalreinstallations. But beyond its life cycle, PRT has a better carbon footprint than most other materials, is FloorScore certified, andcan contribute towards two LEED credits.

1. Choose a Base Color, ANY Color
The base color of PRT can be virtually any color. Thatcould be a color in our catalog. Or any catalog. Or anexisting floor. Or a fabric swatch. Or a paint chip. Insteadof a small palette, your choices are virtually infinite.
2. Choose up to Three Mottle Colors
To add depth and texture to your base color, you can addup to three mottle colors to our standard pattern—just picka color(s), any color(s).
3. Ask about Custom Patterns
Our standard PRT pattern is an excellent choice for mostapplications, but if you need a custom solution, call us.
Premium Resilient Tile Simply the best

PRT features match those of our ESD tile (with the exception of electrostatic discharge properties) yet offers limitless colorcustomization options. Please see page 4 for a complete list of product features.
Minimum production requirements apply for all PRT Flooring. Inquire for complete details.
Air Quality/Sick Building Syndrome Comparison
PRT No out-gassing & no VOC emissions. No tile dust emitted during install or removal. PRT adhesive emits zero VOCs.VCT & Sheet Vinyl Some VCT & Sheet Vinyl products can out-gas for weeks after installation.
Linoleum Continually out-gasses. Not suitable for use with small children or adults with respiratory illness.Cork Chemicals used to bind cork often include formaldehyde that can cause serious health problems.
Silica Based Products Silica dust released during installation can be extremely hazardous. Manufacturers provide extensive warning on use.Carpet Major cause of allergic health problems and often VOCs are emitted.
Epoxy Poured Floors Research indicates that emissions from uncured epoxy can be a major health issue.

LEED Credits and FloorScore VPI – working for a better tomorrow

Understanding FloorScore A Guide to Flooring’s Impact on Indoor Air QualityFloorScore is a certification systemthat helps architects, designers andother professionals assess differentflooring choices as they relate toIndoor Air Quality (IAQ). Differenttypes and amounts of volatileorganic compounds (VOCs) areemitted at varying levels by different types of flooring, andthese emissions can potentially impact the health of thosewho work in those environments.
Specifically, FloorScore, developed by the Resilient FloorCovering Institute (RFCI) and Scientific CertificationSystems (SCS), tests and certifies hard surface flooring andflooring adhesive products for compliance with IAQemissions targets.
VOC emissions of floor coverings and adhesives areevaluated using health-based criteria. After the evaluation, those products that perform at or above a benchmark levelmay display the FloorScore certification label.
In general, it is widely accepted that floors with theFloorScore certification help to create a more healthyworking environment by helping to maintain good indoorair quality. Products bearing the FloorScore label meet theIAQ criteria of many different organizations, including:
• Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS)• LEED® Green Building Rating Systems
(The U.S. Green Building Council approvedFloorScore-certified products as an alternative forcompliance with LEED credit IEQ 4.3 Low-EmittingMaterials).
• Green Guide for Health Care
FloorScore also meets the CA Section 01350 Specification, which includes the Chronic Reference Exposure Levels(CRELs) concentrations established by the CaliforniaOffice of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment andprocedures developed by the US EPA.
Benefits of Good Indoor Air QualityThere are obvious benefits of good IAQ. For instance, inany public facility, good IAQ can:
• Reduce absenteeism• Improve focus and concentration• Improve productivity and performance• Decrease IAQ-related health risks from exposure to
indoor pollutants• Reduce environmental triggers of asthma• Reduce respiratory illness• Help create a healthy, comfortable working environment
The Need for LEED How the LEED Standard EncouragesSustainable Building Practices and MaterialsThe Leadership in Energy andEnvironmental Design (LEED) GreenBuilding Rating System is a voluntarystandard that provides a number of normsand practices for environmentallysustainable construction. The LEEDstandard does several things:
• It defines the term “green building” by establishing acommon standard of measurement
• It promotes integrated, whole-building green designpractices
• It recognizes environmental leadership in the buildingindustry
• It stimulates green competition• It raises consumer awareness of green building benefits• It transforms the building market with greater
environmental awareness
LEED-certified buildings use key resources more efficientlywhen compared to conventional buildings. LEED-certifiedbuildings provide healthier work and living environments, which contributes to higher productivity and improvedemployee health and comfort. Different versions of therating system are available for specific types ofconstruction projects. For example, different versions existfor new construction, existing buildings, commercialinteriors, homes, schools, and so forth.
The LEED Scoring System and CertificationThe different LEED versions use a point scoring system, based on an array of formalized standards in six majorcategories:
• Sustainable Sites (SS)• Water Efficiency (WE)• Energy and Atmosphere (EA)• Materials and Resources (MR)• Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ)• Innovation and design process (I)
After passing a minimum required point level, LEEDcertification becomes more detailed. For instance, in LEEDNC v2.2 (new construction) there are 69 possible points. When the points are tallied, a building can qualify for one offour levels of certification:Certified: 26-32 points. (The lowest level of certification).
Silver: 33-38 pointsGold: 39-51 points
Platinum: 52-69 points. (The highest level of certification).
Throughout this catalog, LEED credits are indicated next toeach product.
