  • PMS SuperTrim Systems IMPORTANT NOTICE Papermakers know that setting, replacing and operating trim nozzles may involve the risk of

    • considerable losses of production (paper going to the broke pit or to the pulper instead of going to the reel…)

    • significant working safety hazards

    • risk of damage to clothing and machine

    PMS SuperTrim systems have been developed to meet the high demands of modern paper machines, and they are designed particularly for

    • safe installation, setting and operation • greatest efficiency and economy

    Please bear in mind that we de not recommended ordering only 2 SuperTrim units, i.e. one for the Front and one for the Back Side. If there is no spare assembly, then what will most likely happen sooner or later is this – a possible scenario:

    • A sheet break or a series of breaks from the edge has occurred. The reason has not been detected clearly. There is a doubt whether the trim nozzle has failed – which may always occur for some reason (filter plugged, foreign matter particle in nozzle after last nozzle change etc.).

    • Knee-jerk reaction of the machine operator: change the trim nozzle.

    • If a spare nozzle assembly is not available, the Pickup must be lifted.

    • Necessarily this means loss of production in the range of 12.000 to 18.000 EURO per hour or

    more.

    • One single event of this kind involving a 20 or 30 minute loss of production will create a financial loss which is higher than the cost of a SuperTrim spare assembly.

    Needless to mention that at any time any clothing accident in the Pickup area may make a SuperTrim assembly unusable for a certain period of time, until replaced or repaired.

    For these reasons we strongly recommend to include at least one spare SuperTrim assembly in your order.

    The procedure of changing a SuperTrim unit during the run, without lifting the pickup, i.e. paper on the reel without interruption, is described in the SuperTrim instruction manual in detail and can be carried out by a trained operator without any problem.

    Operating and standby position: Please note, the distance from centre of SuperTrim S™ unit to trim cut (Cmax) is 650mm at minimum.

  • SuperTrim S™ RAC standard CMD geometry

    1. The operating position (producing the smallest paper web width) is at the totally extended position.

    2. The base plate mounting centre should be at least 650mm from the

    operating position. A ± 25 mm adjustment facility will be useful.

    3. The adjustment stroke between the totally retracted position (“Standby”) and the totally extended position is 200 mm.

    RAC for SuperTrim Systems: Description of the RAC feature Proper adjustment of trim nozzles involves setting of the jet alignment when double jet nozzles are used. Normally, the jet alignment setting of PMS double jet nozzles (VARIO type) is performed by adjusting the tip of the nozzle radially, using a 9 mm flat spanner.

    While adjusting, the operator has to simultaneously observe the cut using a portable stroboscope, set to a frequency of approx. 50 flashes per second. The most suitable setting is achieved when the two jets are very slightly misaligned, with the second jet slightly offset towards the wire edge, relative to the axis of the first jet. Then the web side edge of the cut will be straight, the cut will be wide, and there will be no overthickness of the edge. An overthickness created by the accumulation of pulp will show on the trim side edge of the furrow created.

    The PMS SuperTrim system may be equipped with a device which makes the jet alignment setting convenient and safe at the same time: RAC (Remote Alignment Control).

    The nozzle provides an eyelet in which the actuating rod is engaged. By turning the transmission shaft the tip of the double jet nozzle is rotated for jet alignment. The adjustable front support is clamped to the bowed pipe connector and has a hexagonal transmission. The transmission shaft is held in an adjustable rear support which is clamped to the main pipe. When altering the nozzle angle in MD, the relative setting of the RAC device remains unchanged. The alignment between the shaft axis and the actuating rod axis should be is as closely straight as possible. Check that the actuating rod is straight and tighten all screws after good pre-setting of the device. The nozzle change is performed easily, by disengaging the actuating rod in the zero position of the nozzle tip and the nozzle can be removed using a 10 mm flat spanner.

    Turn the adjustment knob and the nozzle tip at the same time, until the eyelet is aligned in the zero position. Now the actuating rod can be disengaged easily.
