The Union | Thursday, November 15, 2012 | A5 COMMUNITY Dianne Christie Dianne Christie passed away peacefully in Roseville, Calif., Nov. 12, 2012. She was 68. Dianne battled with Parkinson’s disease and brain cancer. A memo- rial service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary, 459 Hallow Way, Nevada City, and will be offici- ated by Pastor Andy Owens. Dianne was born in Santa Monica, Calif., but called Grass Valley her home. She spent the last six years in Roseville at her beloved Mistywood residence. She graduated from Nevada Union High School in 1962 and attended Saint Mary’s Business School. Dianne worked for at J. C. Penneys, Shop-n-Save grocery and Nevada Union High School. She is best remembered as a mother, daughter, sister, wife, grandmother and friend. Dianne’s greatest joy was spoiling her grandchildren. She enjoyed her crafts and was an avid seamstress, providing her grandchildren with one-of- a-kind outfits throughout the years. Her culinary skills were a delight to all those fortunate enough to consume them. No blue ribbon was spared at the county fair for her gingersnap cookies or world- famous pumpkin cheesecake. Dianne loved recounting stories of her various travels and sharing memories of her much-loved cruises. Dianne never enjoyed the shine of the spotlight but would gladly take a front-row seat and enjoy the show. Although cancer took her much too soon, Dianne was able to enjoy the full benefits of a life well served. She was surrounded by her family and dear friends at the time of her passing — all of whom thought it an honor to spend those final moments with her. She is survived by her sons, Tony (Marianna) Davis and Troy (Tracey) Davis; mother Jerre Greenfield; sisters Vicki Hovan and Charmaine Hovan; and four grandchildren, Chris, Meghan, Emily and Sarah. Jack DeJong Jack DeJong departed our world Nov. 1, 2012, at the Hospice of the Foothills in Grass Valley, Calif. Born Feb. 21, 1929, to Margaret and William DeJong from Holland and immigrated to the U.S. in 1908. Jack was the last survivor of six sib- lings, raised in Hayward, Calif. He met his wife Donna at Oakland Tech High school where he was an active member of the gymnastics team. ey married in 1949, and Jack started his carpenter apprenticeship. As a journeyman, he worked for Batista Construction and built dozens of homes in the San Leandro hills at Bay-O- Vista. He also built homes for his family in Fremont, Castro Valley, Oakland and Incline Village, Nev., and became a licensed contractor in 1980. e last home he built was in Incline Village where Jack and Donna resided for 13 years before relocating to Grass Valley in 1997. Jack is survived by his wife Donna and four daughters, Kathleen DeJong Wilson, Connie DeJong, Lyn Reason and Debra Emplit, who were with him in his last days. He was blessed with seven grandchildren and five great- grandchildren who gave him the name of “Great Papa.” Jack’s involvement in the community included the Elk’s Club, the local food bank, repairing the Julia Morgan House, e Wine and Dine Club and e Wagon Wheelers RV Club. He enjoyed traveling with the RV group and most winters Jack and Donna spent six weeks in Arizona. He was an outdoorsman who shared his love of nature with his family on many camp- ing trips throughout the West. His fondest memories as a young man were summers in Montana at his older brother Lou’s ranch where he helped build the ranch house and barns, and lived the life of a pioneer. He inspired a strong work ethic and compassion with a great attitude about life. He will be missed by many friends and family members. ere will be a life celebra- tion for Jack’s birthday Feb. 17, 2013, at the Elk’s Club in Nevada City. In lieu of flowers, his wife Donna has asked donations to be made in his name to Hospice of the Foothills. Sylver Frank Sylver M. Frank passed away Nov. 13, 2012, at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Sacramento, Calif. She was 95. Services will be graveside at 10 am. Saturday, Nov 17, 2012, at the Loney- Sanford Ranch Cemetery, 27584 McCourtney Road in Grass Valley, Calif. Sylver was born April 28, 1917, at Pilliard Ranch in Auburn, Calif., to Walter and Anna Sanford. Sylver gradu- ated from Grass Valley High School in 1936. She attended beauty school and received her license of cos- metology in 1937 and went to work at Wanda’s Beauty Shop in Grass Valley in 1938. She married Don Frank April 25, 1943, in Reno, Nev. She was a beauty operator until 1992 when she retired. In retirement, Sylver and Don enjoyed spending family time at the family Sanford Ranch. We will miss our be- loved Sylver and all the joy she brought. Sylver is survived by her nephew, Frank (Cheri) Quishenberry and their children, John, Jennifer and Deila; niece Lucinda (Kevin) Groce and their children, Derek and Melonie; niece by choice, Beverly (David) Rasmussen; family by choice Bob and Syndy Harris and their children, Robert, Zachary, Colby, and Jacob Paul; and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews. Sylver was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Frank, her husband of 64 years; her parents, Walter and Anna Sanford, brother Paul and his wife, Dorothy. Henry Hoyt Henry F. Hoyt passed away Nov. 3. He was 87. Mr. Hoyt was born Jan. 25, 1925, to Charles and Minnie. He served many years in the U.S. Navy. Henry en- joyed fishing and crafts. He is sur- vived by his wife, Rosalie Hoyt, as well as by Henry, Marline and Charles and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Memorial contributions can be sent to Moose Lodge. Arrangements are under the care of Chapel of the Angels. Eva Rondoni Eva I. Rondoni passed away Nov. 11, 2012, in Escondido. Calif. She was 99. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary, 459 Hollow Way in Nevada City, Calif. Interment will be graveside at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Grass Valley, Calif. Eva was born July 22, 1913, to Alvin Burnside and Cora Springston in Goodhope, W. Va. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1931. In 1933, she married George Tanner and had five sons, Walter, George, Gary, William and Daniel. After a divorce in 1944, she and her sons arrived in Nevada County along with her much-loved dog, Trixie. Eva married Tony Rondoni in 1952 in Reno, Nev., and became an avid rancher. She was a noted cook, rancher and conservation- ist. She was also named Cattlewoman of the Year by the Cattleman’s Assoc. She belonged to First Baptist Church, Banner Grange, VFW Auxiliary and e Cattleman’s Assoc. She is survived by sons, William and Daniel Tanner, and many grandchildren. Eva was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister Pauline; brother Millard; sons Walter, George and Gary; and granddaughter Kimberlee. Dianne Christie passed away peacefully in Roseville, Calif., Nov. 12, 2012. She was 68.

Dianne battled with Parkinson’s disease and brain cancer.

A memo-rial service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary, 459 Hallow Way, Nevada City, and will be offici-ated by Pastor Andy Owens.
